"POP Gotham at CMJ 2009"

A warm room with pleasant lighting and a beautiful red brick faced back-drop is the kind of atmosphere that creates intimacy between a band and their fans. The same exact kind of room with incredible acoustics and an impeccable sound system is what I witnessed Friday night at the Village Underground in the heart of New York City’s Greenwich Village, a neighborhood where artists from all over the world descend upon to exhibit their various creations. Friday night was the CMJ music festival, a festival that I attended back in 1992 when I was with one of New York City’s hottest publicity firms. The band captivating the audience was POP Gotham, a four piece pop rock band with singer Kiko DeLorenzo, lead guitarist Chris Munger, bassist John Montalbano and drummer Connie Yin. Word on the street is the band just returned from Nashville where several notable players in the music industry have expressed an interest in the musical talents of the group. As I looked around the room, I noticed that several of the music industry regulars who I have seen before at Gibson Guitar where there to show their support for what might be the Led Zeppelin of modern pop rock. More specifically, lead guitarist Chris Munger and bassist John Montalbano are real pro’s in the industry; both have been working professionally as musicians for many years. Connie Yin, the band’s drummer, is a master on the skins. If we were back in the 1970’s, the rocket fuel backing this group would have certainly be enough for the band to take the stage with notable groups like Black Sabbath, Deep Purple or Rainbow. Add the lovely pipes of singer Kiko DeLorenzo and you have POP Gotham – a very interesting and talented musical group with a deeply rich musical texture. - Rock N Roll Yellow Pages

Bio

POP Gotham is a four piece female fronted pop rock band hailing from New York City. With a sound described as No Doubt meets Jordan Sparks with a touch of Led Zeppelin, POP Gotham has everything they need to hit the top of the charts!

The band consists of Kiko DeLorenzo (lead vocals), Chris Munger (guitar), John Montalbano (bass) and Connie Yin (drums). Chris and John have been playing together since high school. Along with various bands, they ended up writing and recording music for projects for Comedy Central and VH1 and even recorded tracks in recent years for artsts like Public Enemy and DMC. John had met Kiko on a live gig where she was the background vocalist and John was the bass player. After a great gig, John approached Kiko about writing some music for a new project with Chris. Kiko, John and Chris then auditioned drummers, and Connie made the cut!

Right out of the gate in 2009, POP Gotham made their live debut at a UN Peace Concert in Central Park. As they continued to write music and perform, they were approached to re-record songs from the country duo Big and Rich to give them a pop rock edge. POP Gotham has made quite a noise in the NYC scene and has quickly established themselves as a band to be watched!

POP Gotham is currently working on their first collection of hit original music with producers Victor DeLorenzo (Violent Femmes) and Mike Hoffmann (Verve Pipe) getting ready for 2010 release.

POP Gotham approaches music from the angles of songwriting, musicianship and performance. Each of the members are individually talented and bring a range of influences to the table, but the combination of the four is what makes POP Gotham the powerful band that is destined to make it's mark in the world of music!
