Bio

Poppë. And for those of you who don’t already know, it is pronounced ‘Poppee’, which is thanks to those two little dots nestled tightly above the ë.

Having spent the best part of a year in a West London studio, writing & recording her debut album, Poppë has emerged with a 12-track treasure, lovingly entitled ‘Sink or Swim’.

On first listening, it quickly becomes apparent that the infectious and playful pop melodies simply serve as an appetiser to some sharp and inventive lyrics. Poppë’s voice is often described as being refreshingly pure in tone; but it is the surprisingly raw and unashamed emotion that resonates long after the songs finish. In a nutshell, this is stripped-down radio friendly pop.

As a child, her first love was dance. Not surprising then at 18 she chose to attend dance school rather than embark on a degree in English. To spot her in the violin section of the local youth orchestra or on the basketball court and athletics track wouldn’t be such an uncommon sight either. So I guess you could say ‘she has more than one string to her bow’.

If you ask she will admit that, in her early years, her musical senses truly came alive the day she heard Vangelis pouring from her dad’s stereo which inspired her to have a good old rummage through her parents entire record collection. It was here that (amongst others) she discovered Prince; her second love. Inspired, she began writing her own songs.

Over the years and with tastes changed, Poppë’s inspiration has turned to the vibrant and live feel of the 1960’s. The Rolling Stones, Van Morrison and early Status Quo are just a few who’ve influenced this effortlessly energetic album.
