Who's ever heard of a balcony band? That's how the Porktrashers started out, playing on drummer Mark's tiny apartment balcony so as not to aggravate the neighbours. Said balcony overlooked the parking lot of the pig slaughterhouse, which not only inspired the band's name, but the straight-ahead, loud & catchy rock style required to overcome the noise and smell of the gut-trucks leaving the plant on a regular basis. The addition of Steve Morel was the beginning of the bass and vocal harmony era of the Porktrashers, and the recent addition of guitarist Mike Shostak marks the beginning of the "kick-ass guitar playing" era.
Our material is written by Smith and Morel. With influences like REM, 54-40, The Clash and even the Rolling Stones, the Porktrashers bring modern garage grit to a slightly retro-influenced sound. We like our hooks, we like our grooves, and we take time to craft melodies and harmonies to balance our slightly rough-around-the-edges playing.
