POSTCARD SECRETS
THE LIGHT AND SPACE EP
Review by Don Thatcher

The band Postcard Secrets hails from New York City, NY and their new EP “The Light And Space” is an adventure of the creative process between two men: Nicholas Thompson - Vocals/Guitars and Jonathan Marenus - Guitars/Vocals. During the creative process, Nick would write a song and present to Jonathan or Jonathan would write a piece and bring it to Nick. The best way to describe the two men during their creative process is patience with no ego. For example, if Nick brought a song to Jonathan, Jonathan did not like it right away. The same thing would happen for Jonathan when he would present a song to Nick. However, the songs would grow on each other and they would begin to write pieces to help complete the songs. This type of collaboration makes the music well rounded. The tracks The Furthest Things and Westside are a perfect demonstration of these efforts. The Furthest Things will make fans of U2 and Coldplay take heed while the song Westside is filled with wonderful underlying synth and keyboards to fill the sound. My personal favorite track on the EP is Saved Me With Silence. I immediately hear The Smiths with Steven Page of Barenaked Ladies fronting the band. The chorus in this track features wonderful harmonies between Nick and Jonathan.

Please catch their live show because these songs sound even better in person. - Don Thatcher - Octave Match - HT Media

Bio

Postcard Secrets is a melodic energy induced marathon of original pop rock hooks. The dynamics of each of the five artists makes for a unique onstage experience. The band started out as a two-piece that consisted of founding members Jonathan Marenus and Nicholas Thompson. Together they played gigs on the main stage at Pianos NYC, Club Rehab, Uncle Mikes, Cafe Vivaldi, 169 Bar and a few other gigs. By doing this they gained a fairly loyal following that started coming out for every show. Bruce Reddock now has a larger role with the band. He first played with Jon and Nicholas when they were an acoustic act. He now plays rhythm. Rob Gestone has recently joined us on bass. And drummer Jono Ori has made a great impact as well taking over on the drums. The beat of these songs suck you in and they do not let go. Postcard Secrets is now working on plans for recording and are also planning more shows.
