Bio

Another son of Jamaica’s soil is set to shine internationally. £ound $terling, who has been etching a name for himself on the dancehall circuit is now poised to take his talents to the world, in true Jamaican style. He was born Frankinstine Sylvester Lewin in Spanish Town, St Catherine under the zodiac sign of Sagittarius in 1980. His birth was miraculous as his mother, heavy with child and 15 years old at the time, was traveling from rural Jamaica to the capital city after visiting a relative. Upon reaching the Old capital of Spanish Town, the woman’s water broke and she was rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital where £ound $terling drew his first gasp of air. His father, wanting his son to contribute greatly in the field of science, name him after the Dr Frankenstein, made popular by the movie industry. But little did this man know that his son would evolve into a scientist of musical proportions. His penchant for entertainment began at a tender age. Just 10 years old, £ound $terling, began knocking pans and anything he could find that would soothe his passion for the infectious beat that pounds within every Jamaican’s heart. The days of building rythms by knocking on pans in his yard served as the training ground for what would become a genuine love and admiration for the emerging dancehall genre which had begun to gain momentum in the early 1990’s. £ound $terling attended the Tivoli Gardens High School and while there his DJ prowess began to burst through. On many days during lunchtime, he would entertain his fellow schoolmates with rhymes he coined, perhaps during class as his tutors tried to explain the rudiments of mathematics. As fate would dictate £ound $terling migrated to the United Kingdom at the age of 17 after just graduating from high school. But while some Jamaicans who migrate may have lost touch with the vibe on the street back in Jamaica, £ound $terling, never failed to update himself on the latest slangs and hits on the local scene. As such he managed to stay in touch with his roots despite being thousands of miles away. Now he has grown into a force to reckon with on the dancehall scene as his recent performance at Sting 2008, attests. Sting is considered to be the acid test for dancehall entertainers and many careers have been undermined there, but on that night inside the Jamworld Entertainment Centre, £ound $terling stood up and delivered. Presently the artiste is wor…king on releasing his debut album which will include the already released singles, Pretty Dunce, Inna Di Garrison, My light and My Salvation and Sting History. In case you might wonder who is this artiste’s manager, just ask him. “I handle my business myself. I like to deal with my people personally. There is no hype,” £ound $terling said… While he has known for years that his chosen profession is in the world of entertainment, £ound $terling, is not resting on his laurels. The singer/DJ/composer/song writer is presently pursuing a first degree in human resources and management at the University of Greenwich in London, England where he resides. In addition the budding entrepreneur also owns his own television and radio station while juggling time creation websites for clients in London. He also operates his own record label, UKJA-Entertainment, which is also the name of the electronic media houses. This year the artiste knows that greatness beckons. “I am here to make a powerful stand for greatness in music which beckons from birth, look out for more as the world turn I am globalizing with lyrical expansion to oppose the world by storm,” said £ound $terling. Look out a new star is on the horizon. By Mr Walker (Jamaica Observer)
