Houston’s R&B crop may not exactly reap the same rewards that its hip-hop counterpart has (to date there hasn’t really been a solo male R&B star from Houston) but leave it to young guns such as Ryan Jones to take charge. Released earlier this month, Good Friday sees Jones utilize a similar concept most rappers use (jackin’ for beats) but interpolates his own vocals on them, most of which are quite a pleasant surprise compared to others who merely strain notes over an eight count. - Day & A Dream (Brando)

Since we premiered Houston native Ryan Jones‘s Good Friday EP, the crooner has been busy knocking out features for Authentic Snoopy and others. The synth heavy “BSD” sees Jones embrace the mixture of bass heavy seduction with straight forward lyricism. Can’t knock him for slowing moving into a lane and riding it just as well as he would in any other one. - Day & A Dream (Brando)
