"Top 125 of 2008!"

One of the most eagerly awaited lists in the power pop community is David Bash's exhaustive year-end list of the top 125 albums of the year, and I'm proud to be bringing you David's 2008 list.

116. The Pranks-Modern Communication (Screaming Apple)

- David Bash - Absolute Powerpop

"Modern Communication Review"

"Modern Communication" it is its first album that came to conquer, with winning melodies, sharp guitars, angelic voices, a place of prominence in the hearts of all those who like "power-pop" of the 70's, whose doors are open at the outset with a divine and pure pop, in "Your World Falls Down", with chorus easy to sing follow up "Modern Communication" in "Gonna Make It Worse" we ask where is so much imagination, closing with "Running Out Of Time" where the riff's intertwine with beautiful vocal harmonies. The Pranks in "Modern Communication" impressed us by the easiness with that they had created highly addictive sonorous noise cuts. - Rock Around The Blog

"Move to the front of the line for “best of 2008”!"

Move to the front of the line for “best of 2008”. The Pranks “Modern Communication” pushes up there in a crowded field and I’m guessing will slot in my Top 10 of the year after a few listen this is really, really FUN album of classic power pop. Fans of The Plimsouls, Paul Collins’ Beat and The Nerves, listen up – on the more modern, updated side of pop, I’m name-checking Peachfuzz, Redd Kross and True Love. GEEK NOTE: this is NOT the late 70s power pop band featuring Jeffrey Foskett, whose unreleased material still languishes. The band proudly rape and pillage pop’s past. Bonding blazing guitars and jolts of exhilarating power, The Pranks are a mighty tasty and filling snack that is both healthy for you and going to put a big smile on your face because these unfiltered, high-octane, gems are just the right ticket for good rockin’ ‘ poppin’ times!

Bio

From Seattle, the city that brought you computers, coffee, and airplanes, The PRANKS are born. The Pranks belong to the very few exceptional acts these days, who really understand how to use the "golden key" of power-pop to open the right door. The Pranks are the perfect mixture of classic late 70's power-pop/punk bands like the PLIMSOULS and the BUZZCOCKS, blended with the untamed pop-punk energy of the MR T EXPERIENCE, and early GREEN DAY. Lead singer/ guitarist Erik Foster lends his blistering leads and songbird vocals to the demolishing and pummeling rhythm section compiled of rock and roll's most notorious killers. With the low-end provided by Evan O'Neil, and the thundering drum attack of Jeremy Pills, these boys leave no stone unturned. With a live show as dangerous as their new album, MODERN COMMUNICATION (out now on Screaming Apple Records!!), THE PRANKS will have your head exploding with a massive concussion of rock and roll in no time. Coming soon to a city near you.
