A production team comprised of two unique individual that have joined together to produce songs that defies the laws of beat production. With mind bending melodies and erratic percussion, the teams of Benjamin Coombs and Rehan Jabbar have successfully crafted a sound that is eccentric and many people label as infectious.
The goal set out to achieve when producing a Beat/Record is to have it speak to you and tell a story, allowing the Beat/Record to take you on a wild rollercoaster ride of emotions opening your mind and body to unconventional rhythm and sound.
Prank Stars is the music production venture of Benjamin Coombs and Rehan Jabbar. The duo began their collaboration journey in 2007. Benjamin moved from Toronto to London Ontario in order to complete a post graduate program in Business Marketing Management.
While sitting in class the second day of school, Benjamin opened his laptop, launched a music program (FL Studio) and began to work on a project he had started months before moving. Sitting beside him was Rehan, who he had never meet before, glanced over at Benjamin’s screen and asked him, "how long have you been making music..." After class had finished, the conversation spilt into the hallway and down the staircase and into the cafeteria where they continued to talk about their musical past and musical interests.
Following an intense discussion about music, Benjamin invited Rehan over to his place. It wasn’t much but there he had set up a small, budget, recording section in his room in means of trying to propel his vision of music.
With week after week of extensive jam sessions that ran late into the early hours of the morning, they finally found the missing piece of the puzzle. The missing piece was simple; make what you feel and not what might sell. With an unorthodox method for music production they began creating songs that were solely based on FEELING. Together Benjamin and Rehan developed and refined their sound and style as they see it…
