"Review Of Night Of Sights And Sounds With Saul Williams and Precise"

And then Precise jumps up on stage. I've been wanting to see this dude ever since he e-mailed me a copy of his "Wild, Wild" song a few years ago. He's been a myspace friend of mine for years and I've been hearing his name popping up all over the place. So I think it is totally cool that I am finally getting a chance to see him perform. I am not disappointed. His hip-hop-pop is very inspiring and contains the positive message of accepting responsibility for our own actions. His music and words are reflective of what hip hop once was before gansta rap took over. - CJ Laity

"MJ Finds Out Just How Precise Is Lyrically Fit"

“I would describe my rap style lyrical substance drawing from the original blueprint of the Hip Hop culture.”-Precise
The definition of success in the entertainment is faith, hard work and passion. With these elements an artist born can soar to new heights. Chicago native Precise developed his skills from his experiences as a child attending his father’s band rehearsals. His father was guitarist and saxophonist in a local band. Precise of Haitian heritage always had music part of his life. Precise’s mission is to preserve this rich culture while utilizing his gift to uplift and educate his people specifically the youth.
“My belief in God and knowing that he has given me a gift to share with the world has helped to overcome that doubt. I have no fear.” – Precise…
MJ: Let’s get it going and start with a breakdown of one of your quotes, “I’m feeling good about rap and Hip Hop right now.”
Precise: That’s perfect! It’s a great time for Hip Hop right now because I can see the resurgence of lyricists and being an emcee, I am someone who really takes pride in delivering great lyrics and lyrics with substance. Now is a wonderful time and it’s an opportunity to take advantage of what’s going on.
MJ: What artists have influenced you as well as your old-skool, unique combo of R&B and Motown style and flow?
Precise: I’m influenced by a lot of artists overall. Guru, Chuck D, KRS ONE, Chuck D, QTip and Common. I never heard my style put that way before so that’s pretty unique. Different types of music inspire me.I like Jazz, Konpa (Haitian Music), R&B, Soul and House, pretty much everything. I’m a BIG J Dilla fan. There is a soul in his music that is so pure.
MJ: Talk about the motivation and involvement of the album “Ladies Love Mixtapes The EP.”
Precise: As for the motivation for Ladies Love Mixtapes the EP, it was inspired by a conversation I had with DJ Kmax of CTA Radio WHPK in Chicago. We were discussing how he was having a discussion about how women and lawyers destroyed Hip Hop!I could agree with the lawyer aspect but my feeling about the women was that Hip Hop doesn’t really give them anything to listen to or relate to.
MJ: Really? Interesting, what was the reasoning behind that?
Precise: Well the feeling is that lawyers killed Hip Hop with back room deals and sampling cases and stuff like that. In the discussion he was having with the other person he mentioned women killed Hip Hop because they forced dance music on to the scene. My position is that Hip Hop/Rap isn’t really women friendly and it misses the mark. Currently rap is not delivering the type of music that speaks to a woman’s sensibility. So, Ladies Love Mixtapes the EP addresses this by providing a project that tells a story loosely based around relationships and the peaks and valleys that exist in all of them. Both genders can relate to this. I call it Adult Hip Hop.
MJ: Adult Hip Hop, I definitely like the sound of that! My thoughts as far as women and Hip Hop it’s much harder for women of to be heard and taken seriously in a predominantly male industry. I have been working hard on promoting women of hip hop.
Precise: I can agree with that. There is a space for women. Women should be able to express themselves freely and be heard just as much. I agree with you. Above all they should be respected.
MJ: “I’m Dreaming” is one of my favorite tracks off the Ladies Love Mixtapes The EP. Share with us one of your favorite tracks.
Precise:Well I like all of them; I’m partial to a few, “I’m Dreaming” is one of them. The most personal one is “Let Go”. I wrote that one fresh out of my divorce, a lot of emotion that I was feeling is in that song. It helped deliver some closure to the situation because I was able to express my true feelings in that moment.
MJ: That’s the beauty of music it heals wounds, delivers closure, and lets you exhale! Talk about performing and the stage life. What can fans expect?
Precise: That is so true. Music has always been there for me. I can’t begin to tell you how painful divorce is; I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. I would say if you are going through it find an outlet. Do not hold the emotion in. Workout, take up boxing or something, ha-ha!! As far as performing I feel like that is when I am my truest self. The moment I hit the stage I get a rush and I know I belong there. Once I’m there I want to deliver something memorable and impactful to the audience. I feel like I have a duty to remind everyone how powerful we are and how pure our connection is to the creator. I work to be the vessel of that pure energy. My goal is to bring some happiness, joy and knowledge of self, back into the culture.
MJ: That deliverance is crucial! I’ve been to many venues where the fans do more work than the artists! And what are your expectations for the albums live release on May 20th?
Precise: Well what I’m going to put into the universe is that I would love for the project to go viral and get millions of downloads and help jump start the next phase of my progression. I want this project to be the start of this Adult Hip Hop genre and I also hope to encourage a dialogue between men and women with respect to their thoughts on love and relationships. We are so different, but we all want love. We are love!
MJ: Word! That is well put Precise, well put! Share with us other albums and solo projects that fans can check out.
Precise: Well…I’m on a project called The Anti-Skinny Jeans LP by a well-known producer by the name of RKitech. I’m also on a project with a few amazing Chicago artists called “Hate You Can Trust”. The name of the group is The Guild; consisting of myself, Sean Ace, Cya, D.J. Kwest-On, The Chancellor (Mars), Vision77, Sampshon and Jus Cuz. It was inspired by The Venture Brothers animated series on Adult Swim. I’m also working with a few producers overseas Dray Yard from Belarus and Vinz O from the Netherlands. My follow up project to “Ladies Love Mixtapes the EP” has yet to be titled but it’s going to be some Boom Bap type rap. I also just helped some youth in Chicago write a song called “I Wanna Live.” They are part of an organization called The Crushers Club it’s a boxing gym/studio in the Southside neighborhood of Englewood in Chicago. Their group is called The Voice Of Englewood. Young J.O one of the youth heading up this project is so talented, he directed and edited the video for the song with the help of Westwood College. Sally Hazelgrove is the founder of Crushers Club and is doing dome great work. We are raising funds for the club through a text campaign with the video. (You can watch it here.) You can text “crushers” to 501501. There is so much going on. I’m sure I missed something.
MJ: Our youth…why has that become a mission for you and how?
Precise: The youth are important because they carry the torch into the future. It is important to provide some type of guidance and share our experiences. There is so much going on around the world from Syria to Russia to Chicago and in all of these situations our youth are in the midst of the madness. It’s important to show them that there is a better way. We must show them that they are loved. We must nurture their talents and allow them to grow. I have children and I can do this directly. As an entertainer/artist it is my duty to share the best part. We must be encouraging and be a reminder that we are connected to the creator and with a deliberate focus we can change the world for the better.
MJ: As a parent and artist I couldn’t agree more! Before we wrap up I would like to pass you the mic to share with the music world anything else we need to know about Precise
Precise: Well along with being an artist, I am also a motivational speaker, a blogger and I do some acting. It’s really important to me that we all connect with our power and shine our light on the world. We have the ability to accomplish great things as long as we stay focused, positive and productive! Thank you so much for this opportunity. - MJ Savino

Bio

The definition of success in the entertainment is faith, hard work and passion. With these elements an artist born can soar to new heights. Chicago native Precise developed his skills from his experiences as a child attending his father’s band rehearsals. His father was guitarist and saxophonist in a local band. Precise of Haitian heritage always had music part of his life. “ Growing up in a Haitian household music was always prevalent,” Precise recalls.

He started off as a DJ but always knew he wanted to rap. After competing in a talent show at Olive Harvey College in Chicago, the judges Producer/DJ Terry Hunter and Armando gave him great feedback. These comments gave Precise the encouragement and confidence to pursue his dream.  Upon his meeting aspiring artists Chris Rice a.k.a. “Ideal” and Victor Moore a.k.a. Creole, they formed the group Nubearth. As a group, Nubearth toured in Chicago and regionally. They had the opportunity and memorable experience of opening for Common at Northern Illinois University.

This preparation was building Precise the ability to express himself musically, lyrically and command the stage. The stage is a natural setting for him to entertain and perform, the messages through all of these experiences.

Precise’s influences range from hip-hop legends KRS-One, Rakim, Slick Rick, Black Thought of The Roots, Guru of Gangstarr, De La Soul, ATCQ and Yasiin Bey were instrumental in shaping Precise’s style as a lyricist.

Precise chose his name from Gangstarr’s song Precisely The Right Rhyme.

“ I would describe my rap style lyrical substance drawing from the original blueprint of the hip-hop culture,” Precise states.

Precise also draws influence from musical greats as Sting, George Benson U2, Donald Byrd, Kool and The Gang, Herbie Hancock and many others.

After being featured on a children’s educational CD “Mind Games”. He completed his first solo project titled My Life.

The lead single “It’s On Me” off of the upcoming release of the same name, has an uptempo old-school feel that has become popular among DJ’s domestically and internationally.

Precise’s positive and spiritual energy radiates throughout the project and life. He remembers the essence of Hip-hop and his roots that will elevate him up the musical ladder.

Precise’s mission is to preserve this rich culture while utilizing his gift to uplift and educate his people specifically the youth.
