Bio

Who is precursor: and why you shouldn’t care? We are just another rock band from Portland, Oregon making music that makes us feel good. Is that selfish? Maybe. Our friends seem to love everything we do. They come to our shows buy our records and give us amazing complements that are hard to except. That may not mean a whole lot to you, but it has kept us together for 6 years, two demos, 2 albums, and 2 tours now. And were not going anywhere anytime soon, we love making music together and it shows.

So why should you care about precursor:? Chemistry! When you listen to precursor you can hear the unique blend of chemicals that each member fuses to the songs. This combination of musical influences from across the musical spectrum gives precursor a style that is hard to pin down to one style. Critics have called precursor neo-indie psychedelic metal infusion, melodic art rock, Prog mood music, an Alternative to Alternative Rock. Call it what you will decide for your self, because it’s up to you not us to describe the music just make it.

It all started when longtime friends Andrew Munson and Ryan McIntire escaped there hometown of Solame (Salem), OR to pursue there dreams in the Big city to the north Portland, Or. Late night space jams soon turned into structured songs and the search was on for a drummer. After a few failed attempts Chad Noakes brought his unique drum styles to the table and WALA! Precursor: is born! After a year of Shows and Demos with Bassist Brain Hagerman Precursor released there debut album “Stereophonic” in December 2001. Mr. Hagerman left the group and was replaced by Chad’s older brother Scott Noakes. Thus creating the hard hitting Noakes Brothers Rhythm Section. 2002 brought another addition to the mix with Jon Brennan’s Experimental sounds capes and Turntablism styles.

This brings us to our current line up of 4 years and going strong. The past 4 years have brought precursor: to new heights amazing audiences across the West Coast with powerful live shows accompanied with artsy multimedia visuals and a environmental vision. Playing benefit shows for such groups as Oregon Peace Works, 2004 John Kerry Rally, and Alternative Energy Federation gives precursor: much satisfaction supporting causes they believe in. In the summer of 2004 precursor made the necessary steps to use Biodiesel as there main touring transportation and continue to support the local Biodiesel industry and renewable energy industry.

With the Release of 2004’s “The Different Shades of Waves” Precursor has gained many new fans of all ages. Critics have raved about the unique diversity of musical styles featured within the album’s contents. Many of the songs from “The Different Shades of Waves” have been selected for complications and international DVD releases. (2006 Failing records compilation, Snowboard, and Kite Boarding DVD’s). Precursor has had the opportunity to open for national acts, Floater, Helio Sequence, The Briefs, and Lyrics Born. The future looks bright with many more years of new music and amazing performances for precursor as the currently are writing for there next record due 2007!
