Premodernists started in 2008 as a jam band between three mates. A fourth member was soon added, and over time our sound changed to reflect what we do well as a band.

It's a very egalitarian band, in that there is no band leader or individual responsible for writing the songs. We get together and play, and construct songs out of parts that we like. For this reason, the band certainly has its influences, but there's no particular sound that we're trying to emulate. Everyone brings their own thing to the table and the relative uniqueness of the band's sound reflects that.

Our music also lyrically represents the general punk ethos that we stand by. It's not about a certain look or sound (all of which are cliches and definitely not 'punk' in its actual meaning) but a general dissatisfaction with the way things are and an aspiration to initiate change by openly questioning established norms. It's not the sole message communicated through our music, but it's a big part of what we're about.

Premodernists are a tight, energetic live band who've been widely publicised through local streetpress and community radio. We've also obtained a distribution deal for our debut EP (can be found on iTunes and JB Hi-Fi), recently returned home from a self-organised tour of Europe, and will soon be hitting the studio to record again. A video clip for the first track off our EP will be released soon.
