"PRESTON SWIFT Wins Origivation Magazine's ORGY AWARD"

“Totally Groovy, Totally Sexy, We are in Awe of Ourselves Sometimes.”

That’s Luken Perry, Lead Singer for Preston Swift, Philly’s local new band. So how does a local start-out stand out from the rest and take home our own Origivation ORGY AWARD? They do it by playing their own brand of smooth lounge jazz and screaming hard rock. They mix it up a bit; they keep you guessing; and their live show is SICK.

Preston swift is tight; tighter than Nietzsche. You know when you hear other bands say, “We’ve been best friends since like forever,” when explaining how their sound gels? Well these boys all have the same mom. Chew on that. Behind Luken is a hellish trifeca of Swift brothers. Doug Perry sounds like a ‘70’s rock god, while Rob and John Perry (the consummate jazz men) walk the bass and ride the crash, respectively. The band came together as a happy accident. John says, “Doug and I were auditioning other musicians.” Rob says, “Luken and I were just there to mess around. After about five minutes, we all looked at each other and it just made sense.”

It isn’t entirely kisrnet or genetics that makes Preston Swift a successful venture. Ike every other great act in history, there is a mastermind behind it. Luken says, “Professor Pooch is our man…our dude…our manager…our hippie-genius-law-God.” If you have ever hung out at the Grape Street, you’ve seen him smoking Reds, looking like Santa Claus, and hocking Nutrisystem. The Professor has been involved in the music scene as an adviser to bands for over 30 years, and this is the first band he’s found that he has ever chosen to manage. He speaks of how remarkable Preston swift is. Pooch will tell you. "Anyone who listens to this group is going to hear a different set of bands. I hear Randy Rhoades, late Doors, and bits of British bands like The Coral or Babyshambles. Some one else might hear Talking Heads, Ritchie Blackmore, or Englebert Humperdink.”

The band is currently in the studio ripping through their new tracks...With a second CD on the way and tour plans in the works, you should expect to see big things from Preston Swift. Catch them while they’re still playing the small clubs. If you’re lucky, you might see Doug ruthlessly humping a defenseless amplifier.
