"Pretty Child Backfire – And All The Things Said In The Twilight – Single Review"

A name that has been on the tip of many tongues in recent months - Pretty Child Backfire have reignited themselves as a band to be reckoned with and one to watch for the coming year. Now sporting an official lineup and with their heads down they are out to prove they have what it takes for Belfast’s illustrious scene of ‘small but massive’ giants. With their first official single launch on the horizon All Gone Pop were sent the newly recorded ‘And All The Things Said In The Twilight’
Previous live shows and a early demo had shown us and many others that ‘Twilight’ was a hidden gem with plenty of promise, however this fresh recording at Start Together Studios, conveys the dynamic power of a very well crafted song. The clever pop laced riffs intertwine in the most infectious manor, and the use of space during the ‘ah oh’ vocal breakdown is a successful risk that propels the song rather than becoming that predictably lame transgression found so often. Mark McAllister’s lyrics are a stand up scream for the triumphs and fails of the adolescence we can relate to – maybe not a rebellious, macho voice as such, but a compellingly honest one. Pretty Child’s particular brand of tropical indie rock is not unlike what the world has already seen in the form of Vampire Weekend or Bombay Bicycle Club (can’t wait for the chinos and boat shoes lads), however compared to our usual diet of tired out indie and heavy rock anthems, these boys are a breath of fresh air that we look forward to watching grow.
All Gone Pop Rating: 8/10 – And All The Things Said In The Twilight is released on 12/10/2010 in Auntie Annies

"BBC Introducing Quote"

"60's lizard train wreck Jim Morrison once exclaimed "The old get older and the young stronger",I'm pretty much inclined to agree when it comes to Pretty Child Backfire. They are the sound of articulate, fractious youth, heartbroken and headstrong, with killer choruses and infectious melodies" -Phillip Taggart, BBC Introducing Radio 1 - BBc Introducing NI Radio 1 Show

"Quote from Gary Lightbody"

"They have choruses i would kill for and hooks as supermassive as any I've heard in a long time. They are not going to be Northen Ireland's best kept secret for very long. A catapult to the world awaits" - Gary Lightbody, Snow Patrol - Self Published

Bio

Pretty Child Backfire are Mark, Ciaran, Paudy and Fintan. After forming in mid-2009, the South Derry four-piece have spent the past two years working hard to craft their very own palate of tropical indie goodness, along the way sharing the bill with local heavyweights including General Fiasco, Cashier No.9 and And So I Watch You From Afar.

Following the self-release of a promotional EP in 2009 the band was invited to play Glasgowbury Music Festival and the IMRO Tour, and as 2010 progressed appearances at Radar supported by BBC Introducing and the esteemed G Sessions in the Cellar Bar, Draperstown followed. 2011 saw
Pretty Child Backfire continue to grow in the Belfast scene, playing the Mandela Hall and a sold out Auntie Annie's.

Over the last 12 months, Pretty Child Backfire have had their collective creative heads buried away, and this February, began recording their debut album in Start Together Studios under the watchful eye of Ben McCauley. Featuring both new, previously unheard material and earlier, better established songs, now with the guidance of Third Bar Artist Development (Gary Lightbody and David Matchett) the band have plans for a debut single and UK Tour in support of the release this Spring.
