Bio

Jason “Prime-o” Cantave is the one of the top up and coming hip-hop artists and entrepreneurs to launch into the music scene. Although Prime-o has been grinding in the rap industry for more than a decade, he is finally gaining recognition as multi-talented businessman in the entertainment industry. With three independent album releases under his belt and his own radio station, Prime-o launched his own record label Bran Nayme Records, LLC December 2010.

Born and raised in a small suburban town just 20 miles north of New York City Prime-o was heavily influenced by fast paced music industry in the big city. The youngest of three siblings, Prime-o’s older brothers introduced him to hip-hop. As a teen he used to rhyme along to some of hip-hop’s pioneers like Big Daddy Kane, Das EFX, and Jay-Z. By the ripe age of eight Prime-o knew that he was destined for a career in the rap industry. He recorded his first track in his room on a Sony tape recorder to a sample of Method Man’s “Bring the Pain,” and he has been writing rhymes and rapping ever since.

Prime-o solidified his place as an up and coming artists in 2007, at the age of 22. He released his first of three mixtapes, “Streets of Spring Valley Vol. 1,” a compellation album between Prime-o and other local Spring Valley rappers. “That album, put me on the map,” Prime-o said.

His catchy punch lines, passionate flow, and strong delivery caught the attention of former New York City radio personality Miss Jones, when he performed his song “100 Movies” at an annual rap showcase in 2008. “100 Movies,” drove the crowd wild and opened the doors for Prime-o to perform at several other showcases in the Tri-State area. Prime-o followed up of his 2008 performance success, with an independent album release “Time to Shine,” featuring original beats from various producers. He performed songs off of “Time to Shine” in May of 2008, at Faces in the Crowd, one underground rap’s largest showcases in New York City.

Prime-o returned to his Spring Valley roots in 2009, performing weekly gigs in Nyack, NY at a local bar. His persistence and dedication lead to his first paid gig in 2010 at Sullivan Hall, in New York City’s East Village. He performed all of his material for an hour to a well receiving crowd. “ That performance let me know that I could get paid for doing what I loved,” said Prime-o, “It also led to more connections.” By the end of 2010, Prime-o established his own company and brand, Bran Nayme Records, LLC. He not only serves as the CEO, but he is also a producer and manager for himself and other artists.

He started promoting his company with fellow artists in 2011, and landed a job as a the program director of his own radio show, Land of the ROC, which aired in his hometown of Spring Valley, NY. “We used the station to play our records, and interview artists that were going to be on the label,” Prime-o said. The local success of the radio station led to the release of Prime-o’s third mixtape, “The Single EP,” and the release of his first music video for the single “1 +1.”

Today, Prime-o continues to build his label and brand, Bran Nayme Records. He is currently working on a new mixtape, and in the process of developing a recording studio at the Bran Nayme Records, LLC headquarters. For more information on Prime-o and Bran Nayme Records (insert website link).
