"Duo hit the Horn"

A TOP pop duo eased music-lovers back into the working week with one last treat.
Singer/songwriter Pete Duddles, from St Albans, and Kensington-based Karim Fanous, delighted regulars at the Horn’s Blue Angel Acoustic Café on Sunday evening with a four-song taster of what’s to come at the next full gigs.
The pair, two-thirds of Prize Apart, were first on stage and started with the fan’s favourite She’s Secrecy – an upbeat catchy number – before stunning the audience with Jenny Kissed Me, an autobiographical funky ballad. Another of the band’s harmony-filled anthems, Magic Potion, led up to a brand new song – yet to be given a title – which left the crowd wanting more.
They’ll have to wait until next week, when they can see Prize Apart – complete with drummer Rich ‘Bongo Bob’ Howell – two nights running.
Prize Apart will appear at Barfly Enterprise in Camden at 8.15pm on Tuesday April 1st and on Wednesday 2nd at the Horn, as part of ‘Strung Up’ – the first of monthly events from 7.30pm-12 to celebrate the best of Blue Angel Acoustic Café performers. Both events have a £3 entry fee. For more information visit www.prizeapart.com or www.lemonrock.com.

"Manilla Reviews"

This 3 piece describe their music as catchy and energetic acoustic pop. What else can I say? That is just the type of thing I would have written about it. Ship is Sinking is about the end of a relationship and wanting it to just end. However it still manages to keep a smile on your face, the catchy lyrics along with the acoustic guitar ensure this. The second offering Sunny Song starets with a harmonica which is
returned to throughout the song, again this keeps the record happy and it bounces merrily through. Although the
songs are written by different members of the band , the sound is similar showing they are all singing from the same songsheet.
If PrizeApart can continue to offer this style of music in a world with so much gloom, I’m sure their music will
bring a smile wherever its played. Which is no bad thing.

Bio

The band were formed at Warwick University in their final year for a couple of gigs and enjoyed it enough to keep going afterwards. Karim and Pete recorded an 11-song demo in an exhausting day and a half in the following summer with Bongo Bob adding bongo overdubs in a later session.

The band's first gig at the Horn Reborn, St Albans, in Feb 2001 was a great success and the band has headlined the Sunday acoustic night there a further 9 times since.

A 5-track E.P (Eyes on the Prize) was then recorded which introduced drums and bass for the first time.
Meanwhile the band played gigs in London at least once a month and in the process gave the Rock Garden in Covent Garden their biggest ever turn out as well as winning best band at the Virtually Acoustic Club awards. They also appeared on
"Stage Fright" which was a music show on the Whereits.at digital channel.

The progression from two acoustic guitars and a bongo to drums, bass and guitar was finally made in late 2002, when the band recorded a two-track 'prize' promo CD.

The band have headlined at the famous Borderline club in London twice and as well as appearing in many local newspaper articles, they have won a battle of the bands competition on Hertbeat FM.

The latest release - "Up and Away" - is a 12 track album. This CD represents the culmination of the bands experience over the previous two years and was recorded and produced by Karim in his bedroom studio using their own equipment.
