To judge Seattle recording artist Produktive on first glance, one would see a youth inspired by the angst of his grunge roots, the careless attitude of punk rock, the mind of a manic depressive, and the rhythm to tie it all together through the hip hop music he creates. Well, usually we advise one not to judge a book by its cover, but in this case we would have to make an exception.
Torn between a ‘mainstream’ and ‘conscious’ approach to what is now becoming an epidemic in the Northwest, Produktive creates every song he records from the ground up by producing, mixing, and mastering every track himself. “I just think it means more when I can listen to a song that was made specifically for me, by me.” Unlike several peers in the greater King County area, 26 year old Produktive went on to admit that he makes music for his own enjoyment and doesn’t feel the need to cater to the urban music fans that inhabit his native land. “They won’t like it at first”, he chuckles, “but I have faith in the 206, good music has always come to be appreciated, even if it’s a little stranger!”
While listening to his first solo project, “The Produktive EP“, one could argue he might be under the influence in songs like “The Noose”, where we find him almost bragging about how he ‘puffs like a blowfish’ However, while listening on we find shades of depth in tracks like “My Position” and “Insomnia”, where the infomercials on late night television are almost viewed as cruel taunts on the playground of depression.
Currently working on production, directing music videos, and engineering projects for several local artists including Luck-One, Ripynt, and newly joined supergroup L.A.C.O.S.A., this devout Mariners fan tells us his debut album, “White Noise” is dropping in the Summer of 2013. So whether or not you view this artist as either indecisive or well-rounded, one thing remains true, you will be seeing plenty more of Produktive in the near future.
