Bio

The city of Los Angeles has been very good to comedian/actor Jamal Doman since he moved here from his hometown of Philadelphia in 1997. After already establishing an excellent reputation as one of Philly’s funniest people, Jamal was very eager to take on the business of LA! It didn’t take him that long to find his place either. After two weeks in town he was already starring in a episode of CBS “Unsolved Mysteries” where he showed his talents in a dual role of twin brothers. The stage was the next hurdle to tumble when Jamal also played dual roles in the Beverly Hills Playhouse production of “America’s Little Sweetheart”. DramaLogue said Jamal “brought energy and professionlism” to the play. Jamal also took on the famous role of “Theo” in the classic “Ceremonies of Dark Old Men” at the esteemed “Stella Adler Theater” in Hollywood. He returned to Stella Adler to play the role of “Duncan” in “Eubie Waller’s Last Rites”! The Backstage West said Jamal “proved his professionalism” with his performance. Not bad for a stand-up comedian. Next up came roles in two episodes of “Arrest&Trail”, guest spots on BET “OH DRAMA”, FOX “The Magic Hour” (please no “Magic Hour” jokes, he was only in the first episode), as well as several commercials!

What’s really funny is that Jamal came out here to do stand-up comedy! Fortunately he has also conquered that hurdle as well. Jamal has proven himself to be one of L.A.’s most creative comic writers. “I try to be more creative then just the usual sex/booty material that so many comics fall victim to”, says Jamal. “I want to make you laugh with something that also makes you think!” Jamal is so respected in the LA comedy scene that he was chosen to be the talent coordinator for LA’s MIXED NUTS COMEDY CLUB. Just recently Jamal torn the house down at Miami’s Jackie Gleason Theater as he made his long-awaited debut on BET’S ComicView! Jamal’s comedy writing can be read nationwide, as he is the comedy editor for “HouseOfRoses” magazine as well as the head comedy writer for “SMOOTH” magazine. Says Jamal; “Writing is another outlet for my comedy. When I see someone laughing in the barber shop at my articles it’s just like I am on stage getting laughs.” And just don’t think that Jamal only writes comedy for magazines, as he has written television pilots for his good friend comedian Michael Blackson as well as his own hip-hop variety show “THE JAMAL DOMAN SHOW”!

And for Jamal Doman the scary part is that the best is yet to come!
