Professor Penguin is the sweet sounding creation of South London suburbanite Jonny Abraham.
It was summer 2009, a week after his college submission deadline that Jonny was asked to stay behind after class by his teacher. Fearing the worst about his rushed lo-tech attempt at an electronic music folio, Jonny was somewhat astounded to find that Jono Buchanan was in fact incredibly positive about his work and went on to encourage Jonny to develop into what is now known as Professor Penguin.
After a patient and tricky 9 month period, the blossoming creative partnership between Jonny and Jono had finalised what was to be Professor Penguin’s debut album Planes.
Completely self released, Planes is a unique record borne of many styles and moods ranging from soft lilting passages which occasionally drift into deeper and darker spots of epic intensity which, in turn, contrast feelings of awe for natural landscapes whilst showing despair at man’s disregard for the world and those around them.
Live, Professor Penguin offer something utterly unique. The band perform as a 10 piece outfit including horn and percussion sections. This set up not only looks great but takes the delicate songs from the debut album ‘Planes’ and transforms them into wonderfully epic and beautiful performances rich in harmony.
A sight and sound not to be missed this summer!
