PROJECTE
MUT is currently one of Ibizas most prominent groups and since the release of
their second album Corda i Poel in 2012, they have established a strong
following in Catalonia.  Projecte Mut first
took shape in Ibiza in 2005 when the singer and songwriter David Serra (Statuas
d Sal) and the musician and producer Joan Barb (Statuas d Sal, Ressonadors) began
working together on this solo project.
These two artists delve deep into Catalan folk-rock, writing their own
lyrics and also using texts of Ibizan poetry over an acoustic sound, one
characterized by blending drums, electric and acoustic guitars with the violin
and traditional Ibizan instruments such as castanets, the
pays drum or the espasa metal percussion instrument.
At the end of 2009, the band released their first album Posica, a
success both in sales and with the critics.
In 2012 they released Corda i Poal, a recording that continued along
the line of Folk-rock from the four winds and searches for the hidden voice,
that of the heart, of words, of emotions and of course, the voice of the
poets.  Serra and Barb include
instruments like the ukulele, the accordion and the flute.  With this album they have managed to
captivate both the public and the media, and the album was included in the
magazine Enderrocks Top Ten Best Pop / Rock albums of 2012 and was nominated
for Album of the Year on RNEs Radio 4.
In June 2013 the band played at the Camp Nou Stadium in Barcelona as
part of the Freedom Concert.  That
evening they performed the traditional Ibizan song Jo tenc una enamorada,
taken from their first album Posica and which is now one of the bands most
popular songs.
In October 2013 Projecte Mut released their third album Collecci de
Satllits (LBAM Records).  The new album has
been recorded in a very natural and instinctive way, leaving aside the fear of
having to perform each song in an exact style.
Since the bands beginning they have been incubating an extra pop
component and now it present without any complexes and in an almost unconscious
way.
This album includes
14 tracks and continues along the same line as their previous work in folk-rock
genre. The title refers to everything that orbits the band, from their own
songs, their influences, the sounds and instruments they use, their feelings
and above all the contents of their lyrics, which as always have a strong literary
influence.  It was recorded
at the Magrana Studios in Ibiza and produced by Barb and Serra.  The album was one of the finalists in the
following categories of the Enderrock Prizes: Best Pop Rock Album, Best Group,
Best Song, Video, Lyrics and Best Album Cover, and has also been nominated for
Catalan Album of the Year which is organised by the Spanish State Radio, Radio
4.
Projecte Mut have toured extensively, from numerous shows in the Baleric
Islands and Catalonia to Expolangues 2010 in Paris, the Be Balears exhibition
in New York or the Festival des Fontaines in Grans-Bouches in France.  The band is currently touring the new album
Collecci de Satellits.
