It would seem that I got lucky and caught a great band playing live
for my first encounter with them. Sometimes this can be the best way
to hear a band for the first time since you do not already have
recorded material to compare them with and there is no bull shit about
the style of music they play. You get to kick back and take it all in one
inhale at a time and let the buzz do it's thing.

I have come to the conclusion that this band are just plain and simply
heavy fucking metal with no imagery, no gimmicks and no coorperate
or media stereo types of this is what you should sound like because this
is what is selling. I find this band to be real and honest in what they play.

I really had no idea of what to exspect as the band set up their gear so I
awaited with considerable anticipation while the first notes were coming
through the speakers and sure as hell they cranked out song after song
that brought the metal loaded with crushing grooves and an intense vibe
that left any doubt standing at the door. I was not familiar with the bands
songs so I can not recall the songs by name or order. What I do know is
that each song had it's own feel and identity, they sounded good and had
me banging my head the entire set. They even covered a much beefed
up version of Flock of Seagulls "I Ran" and never in my life would I have
thought anyone could pull this off but damned if they didn't do just that.

Needless to say I had to buy their disc "Redemption" after the show and
give them some praise for doing a KICK-ASS show. I've played the disc
several times since then and each time it smacks me upside the head. I
very much look forward to their next show here in Dover and hope
more people will come out ... You will not be disappointed. So if you like
a straight forward metal band that will entertain the hell out of you then
be sure to check out Property.

The Metal Archives, as we all know, has certain rules about how to write reviews and how to get your review accepted. These rules tend to be fairly flexible, but when it comes down to it, a review has to be a review. If this were not the case...well, the page would suck then, but if it wasn't the case in some fictacious world, then all I would really have to write here is "if you like Pantera, you'll like this".

As you've probably guessed, this is a groove metal album. It falls solidly within the genre and the influences are clear - Pantera, Black Label Society and a little Metallica too. Like most groove, it has a slight Southern vibe, especially in the vocal department. But if you know (and hopefully like) this kind of music, then you have probably made up an idea of what you think this album sounds like in your head. You're probably right.

The essence of this album is that it doesn't try to be anything it's not. Property don't try to pull off any snazzy jazz sections, any off-kilter drum patterns, any 'wacky' time signature changes. There's no diversions into folk or techno or post-rock or anything else a band does nowadays to try to be different. Noktorn said it best, this band well and truly just wants to fucking rock. The groove styling that rose to a certain degree of popularity in the 90s tends to get a lot of flack from the elitist metal community, but I love it, and for one reason - the bands are just out to fucking rock, plain and simple. No fucking around doing stupid shit to get attention, no aiming to be 'true' bullshit, just straight up pure unadultered rockin' metal. What's wrong with that?

Don't get me wrong, this isn't an album full of 'I Wanna Rock' type songs, the lyrics are serious and meaningful ("My life screams before my eyes, too scared to realize, will fate smile on me another day, I will not die this way") but the music...the riffs, the vocals, the actual rhythms, the drum patterns - they don't serve any purpose other than to rock. This is what I got into music for, and this is the kind of thing that will always be a priority for any kind of music for me.

All the songs here are great, and I find that the album grows on me more and more as I listen to it, so watch this space, the score may go up in future days. But if you need one highlight, i'm gonna say check out the last track, which is a cover of 'I Ran' (originally by Flock of Seagulls). What can I say? It works I tell ya. Justin pulls off the vocals really well, and i'm sure that like me you'll hit 'back' on your cd player a few times with this one. Definately a classic to rock out too.

What more is there to say? Do you listen to Reinventing the Steel regularly? Do you like Zakk Wylde's vocals aswell as his shredding? Do you know who sung the line 'Let Freedom Ring With a Shotgun Blast'? Then this album was made for people like you.

These guys tear it up the right way from Viriginia . . . Property has a new CD called "Redemption" and it's kick ass. I really was impressed with the production for an unsigned band. I also was totally into the artwork and complete packaging with a slick insert - complete with lyrics and the usual thanks and such. It looks very professional and compliments them nicely.
The guitar crunch was there and I liked the solos as well. Mike Demeron and Justin Earven share guitar duties and really shred it up in true metal style. The song "Judgment Day" features some sweet dual guitar attack stuff. Eddie Holmes does a killer job on the bass, laying down some sweet lines and keeping the rumbling at a fever pitch. He starts off the track "Bend My Cage" with a tasty lick that stood out to me. Drummer Keith Head puts his drum kit through a metal workout with some nice double bass and cymbal work. I guess my only complaint about the sound of the CD would be to get a little more meat on Keith's snare sound, but that's just the producer in me talking! Ha. The vocals from Justin Earven are a solid mid-range performance with some good melodies when needed. He's got a hardcore style to his vocals, but he ventures off the path to make it his own. I thought there were a few times where Justin was hitting difficult areas vocally and might need a little work to hit those notes with strength. But his effort is commended and I think he'll only improve with time. A couple of the band members do backing vocals, and those also seem to need a little "tightening up". Overall - their song writing was sound and shows that they've got some years in the trenches under their collective bullet belts. I thought the song "Curse of Life" was a good example of their writing style.
I hear a variety of influences when I hear this band. I hear some old Megadeth/Metallica - back when both of these bands had balls. I also hear glimpses of Metal Church, Overkill, Anthrax, Accept, and many more from the great era of metal - the 1980's. If you dig it old school with a modern edge to it - then you will like Property and their latest offering "Redemption". It's more than worth the price of admission.

Property knows exactly what they’re here for: rocking the hell out. Their debut LP, ‘Redemption’, is a solid block of Pantera-style groove metal that will satisfy anyone’s fix for this style. It’s packed to the brim with damned fine riffing, non-stop sing-a-long vocal passages, and an overall spirit of just wanting to make enjoyable, heavy music for all of us.
Opening up with the rocking, grooving, crushing ‘One Shot One Kill’, with a main riff that would kick off a concert flawlessly. The band is great on asskicking mode during songs like the death metal influenced ‘Curse Of Life’, but also fantastic when they take it back a notch with songs like ‘Tracks’, which reminds me more than a little of New Orleans’ Down with its semi-clean vocals under traditional metal based music. It’s simply very enjoyable, heavy, rocking music to listen to, with great riffs and a similarly great vocal performance by Justin Earven, who could be described as the brother of Kirk Windstein of Crowbar in tone.
While ‘Redemption’ is a rock-solid album, I have a feeling that Property would really shine on stage, with massive volume creating an enormous wall of sound. The production here on the album doesn’t quite capture such a thing; the guitars are pretty good, but the drum production is a little too close and flat. What this band needs is a huge, stadium-like production that beats your heart with the bass drum. The riffs here are heavy as hell at times and would be well complemented by a production job that brings out that big, blunt texture that makes them so nice to listen to. Despite being from Virginia, this really seems like the sort of thing that would come from down here in the South; you generally see bands of this sort stemming from Texas and similar locations, making this a rather unusual sight.
Obviously Property isn’t pushing the envelope of musical innovation with industrial noise sections and Buddhist chants. But they DO kick ass, and you SHOULD check them out if you want to here some straight-up, no-bullshit, awesome heavy metal from guys that know how to do it. This is music by people who clearly love heavy metal with all their hearts and are right at home playing it. Man, I bet they own souls live.
