Bio

Hidden behind the plastic aesthetic and the masses of Boca Raton, Florida, a city known more for its riches and beaches than music, Protagonist play their own brand of anthemic melodic punk rock led by desperate vocals, racing guitars, and an unrelenting drum assault. Protagonist uses punk rock in its most bare-bones definition; an outlet for everything right and wrong in the world. Before the days of Internet social networking they helped to jumpstart a scene in their hometown with a hardworking, diy ethic, releasing demos, booking and promoting their own shows in VFW halls and skate parks. This earn it yourself/do it yourself ethos helped Protagonist build a fan-base in Florida and abroad when they began to tour actively in 2001. Legendary New York hardcore label, Blackout! Records (H20, Kill Your Idols, Sheer Terror) took notice and released the band’s first full-length record “Hope and Rage” in 2003. The album was well received among critics and Revolver Magazine called the record, “Hardcore record to check out,” in 2003. After extensive touring in support of “Hope and Rage,” they recorded and released, “Reasoning With Time,” an EP that showcased the band’s growth both musically and lyrically. Throughout 2008, they continued to tour including a Japanese tour that brought their brand of melodic hardcore punk across the ocean. Protagonist have recently finished recording their long awaited second full length titled “The Chronicle”, which will be released by Paper and Plastick in spring of 2009.
