Tommy

Written By: Mark Busine

Tommy – Mark Busine

Tommy was a young man with a wife and two kids
But when the war broke out he did what all good young men did
Fighting for a cause they thought, They’ll do their bit that’s all
I’ll see you back in town real soon, we’ve got a life that will be full

And as he looked up to the sky the Southern Cross shone strong
A guiding light they hoped would bring him home

So on an Aussie Navy ship to Singapore he left
But with surrender imminent Batavia they fled
It wasn’t long before they found themselves captured in chains
On their way to Burma and a life that was insane

An as they looked up to the sky the Southern Cross shone strong
A guiding light that always took them home

So on the Death Railway young Tommy he was forced to toil
With Les and Tankie by his side they pushed through heat and soil
With death and disease all around it just game down to time
Young Tommy like the rest would soon be struck down on that line

But as they looked up to the sky the Southern Cross shone strong
A guiding light that always took them home

At 55 Kite Camp, Tommy was sent to hopefully heal
A hospital. or so they said but this was not for real
The death certificate shows he died from a range of ills
As those young men around him suffered with such painful squeals

An as they looked up to the sky the Southern Cross shone strong
A guiding light that never took them home

And as his youngest child grew up he had to know much more
About the father that was gone who left to fight a war
Was it curiosity or a something deep inside?
That tells us who we are so we no longer need to hide

And as he looked up to the sky the Southern Cross shone strong
A guiding light that always took him home

So I am here to tell the tale of Tommy and his son
A story I am proud to tell as the first born grandson
And yes its true that I will never know just how it feels
To live a life without the man who guides you at the wheel

And as we look up to the sky the Southern Cross shines strong
A guiding light that always takes us home
So as we looked up to the sky oh Tommy’s light shines strong
A guiding light that always takes us home

Memory is Born

Memory is Born - Mark Busine

V1
A memory is born, a day we will mourn
No time yet to find, complete peace of mind
The time is short, though hours seem so long
Will this emotion, remain so strong

V2
Feeling the fear, but don’t want it to go
Desiring that pain, as it continues to grow
The time is short, though hours seem so long
Will this emotion, remain so strong

Chorus
Its hard to imagine what we can’t concieve
The future will remain our destiny

Refrain
And if I should fall, it’s on you that I will call
‘Cause now I see the strength that lies beyond that wall

Its hard to imagine what we can’t conceive
The future will remain our destiny

A memory is born, a day we will mourn
