About BOBBY RAY AND PROVIDENCE
Born in Cali, I began my musical journey at 9 . My first guitar came from Tijuana, and I loved it as intensely as my favorite lady. I took lessons, worked hard, began playing in clubs at 13. Played tons of gigs around the New Haven area in Connecticut, playing in a band with Mickey Curry who later went on to play with Hall and Oates, and Bryan Adams. I later gave up rock and the blues in favor of the"new wave" music of the 80's. I lived in Manhattan, lived the party life, and opened for hundreds of bands like U2, Squeeze, The The, Jesus and Mary Chain, The Pretenders, and the list goes on..........After a break from music, I began writing songs. During this period I changed from being mainly a performer to writer and arranger. I seek out the voices and players that help to bring the ideas in my head to life. I love the lyrics, instrumentation, and writing style of modern country music. I think that many of the finest players in America can be found playing on the tracks of today's country music. My last CD, Yankee Cowboy, put me on the road towards recognition as a writer. I am currently affiliated with Sharp Objects agency in Nashville. I have a new single being released currently featuring Bruce Bouton on pedal and lap steel, Zane Williams on vocals, and Doug Courtney, Producer, and multi instrumentalist.
