Psionic is a progressive rock band from Plymouth, Ma. I got to check out three tracks by the band and I must say they are very promising. Again, refreshingly, it’s apparent from the start that these guys know how to craft a good song backed with very tasteful playing, as evidenced by the staccato guitar attack on Wrecking Ball that will have you drumming along with the song right away, to the good time rock sound of Alive, reminiscent of the early Van Halen days, to finally the tight songwriting ability and energetic chorus of Politicking. Theres something here for everyone- clean, crisp guitar work, solid rhythm section, and some powerful and very promising vocals from Finn Maguire. Preparing to Launch:
Psionic has been on the SE Mass/Cape rock scene for a very short time, but in that time they have accomplished more than most local bands do over the course of their whole career. Combining an electric live show with a polished sound and a very professional attitude, they are now poised as well as any band could be to be launched to the next level. “Psionic is a diamond in the rough, just waiting to be discovered" says Bob Yen

Coming Together:
Guitarist Jeff Silva, Bassist Bill Tierney and Frontman Finn Maguire only needed one audition to replace their departing drummer. Chris Barone joined the lineup in the fall of 2003, and Psionic immediately began making huge strides ahead. They have consistent airplay on local radio stations and their ability to combine a “tight and well polished sound” (Pixy 103’s Suzanne Tonairre) with a ferocious live show have put them in a class of their own. "Psionic storms into their set with raw force, taking control of the crowd" (freelance writer/photographer Mark Vogel).
Turning Heads:
In early Spring, 2004, Psionic took the stage at Sundancers in West Dennis in the preliminary rounds of the “Cape’s Most Dangerous Band” contest, a battle of the bands contest sponsored by Cape Cod’s most popular rock station, WPXC. Heads began turning as they ripped through a fierce set of engaging originals and eye-popping covers. Their performance was later described as “an onstage tornado.” They won that round and continued on to the finals, facing the other 4 preliminary round winners. Heads turned once again as Psionic won the contest, taking home the title and a bevy of new fans.
Opening Doors:
Armed with their title as “Cape’s Most Dangerous Band”, doors began opening for Psionic. They booked the best local rock clubs, and began converting both discerning and casual music fans into Psionic fans. When national acts like Fuel and Tantric came a knockin’ to find a local band to open for them when in town at the famous Cape Cod Melody Tent, Psionic got the nod, and proved that they are a “next level” band. The guitarist of another local band expressed the views of many in saying “Psionic just look like they belong at that level”.
What’s next for Psionic:
The “Cape’s Most Dangerous Band” plans to continue its ascent, by writing new songs, polishing their old ones, and playing to packed houses across SE Mass/Cape Cod. A six song LP is on the way, as is a planned tour of area colleges. They have accomplished a lot in their short time together, and have tasted success at the next level. As Bob Yen Jr. said “They have the raw energy, attitude, and animation to make it". Cape Cod Magazine’s Mark Vogel may have summed up Psionic best by comparing their potential to the Boston song “Rock ‘n Roll Band”: “Perhaps they will sign a record company contract and become a sensation when a man with a big cigar and Cadillac car tells them ‘this band’s out of sight’”.
