"A personal review of - Psycle - Psycle"

Unlike some of the more established giants of the hardcore convoy who grind gears, drag fuel tanks and end up on a runaway ramp when major labels push their rig down a path (like Korn and Static X), indie - band Psycle endures with a parametal surge of arranged chaos. For every tectonic shift in Psycle's frequently quaking songs - and there's enough seismic activity to make San Fransisco, Izmit and Mexico City's fault lines all seem utterly benign - there's an undeniable root harmony that if stripped of the thudding bass lines and myriad rods of distorted guitar would come off as delicate as a milk shoe. But this tunesmanship is camoflouged by a darker psychodellic mood similar to that of Tool, or less obviously, Alice in Chains. ...Vocal command falls somewhere between Corey Glover and Mike patton, yet he recognises a smart melody and gives it his own distinction. Therefore, in songs like the Rob Zombie - esque "Ugly" and local favorite "Down", Psycle's frenetic horsepower intensity settles into the tell - tale groove - laden chorus of a typical Psycle song, in which the director of ceremonies cordially warms us to his season in hell. - Chuck Mindenhall of L.A. Night sounds: Explore new sounds with Psycle

Transition is in the air. Let’s celebrate the Labor Day holiday — and what better way than with a CD release party for the band Psycle Saturday at Amos’ Southend in Charlotte?

Psycle, based in the Queen City, has spent much of the last year in performances, including a coveted guest opening for Godsmack at Ovens Auditorium last spring. The members are Jay Tilyard on lead guitar and vocals; Kevin Luke on drums; Dave Alvey on bass guitar; and Paul Fenner on lead vocals.

It should come as no surprise that this four-man squad of hard and heavy rockers have managed to conjure up a new collection of sounds to showcase their groove-rich orchestrations. The new CD is titled “Sins of Angels” and comes with a brooding musical fixation on the wicked wages of transgressions.

The band recently signed to a digital distribution deal with Deep South Records in Raleigh, N.C. It stands and delivers a catchy, diverse and powerful sound, rife with emotion yet not devoid of melodic salvation. Psycle has also shared the stage with other notables, such as Incubus, Staind, 3 Doors Down, The Gin Blossoms, Alterbridge, Sevendust, M.C. Hammer, Twisted Sister, Shinedown and 30 Seconds to Mars.

Additionally, Psycle’s music has been featured in two full-length independent films — “Circling Serita,” which will hit the September festival circuit, and “Chickenheart” by local film group Peoplefoodfilms as the sound of the movie’s focal point, a band called Chickenheart.

Witness a rockin’ revelation Saturday at Amos’ Southend, 1423 S. Tryon St. The event features a three-band lineup that includes Restless Oblivion and Blackaciddisco. Call (704) 377-6874 or check www.amossouthend.com for information. Get more news on the band at www.myspace.com/psycle and www.psycle.biz.

Bio

Crossing the lines of style and genre, Psycle, a four piece powerhouse, perfects a mix of old and new school stylings to create an explosive, heavy, groove rock based sound with influences ranging from Tool, Alice in Chains and the Deftones to Pink Floyd, Parliament, Electric Light Orchestra and more.

Lead singer Paul Fenner's uniquely styled vocals command the listener's attention both live and in recordings. With an emotional yet powerful sound coupled with an enormous stage presence, Paul is easily able to captivate a diverse audience. The broad influence base of the creative musical core of the band builds a solid foundation upon which Paul is able to set his theatrical throne.

Psycle track seamlessly from heavy, groove laden riff rock with haunting melodic elements into moody, gut wrenching orchestrations all with relative ease. Musically, the band's goal is to hook the listener with not only catchy, but well thought out songs that compliment the lyrical content. Psycle's sound is best described as sometimes dark, often heavy, occasionally pop-like but always powerful and impassioned. The image of the band reflects its rock n' roll roots and darker eclectic side while still embodying the youthfulness of its members.

Psycle are no strangers to big shows. Participating in events and sharing the stage with acts such as Godsmack, Incubus, Staind, 3 Doors Down, The Gin Blossoms, Alterbridge, Sevendust, M.C. Hammer, Twisted Sister, Shinedown, 30 Seconds to Mars, etc., they are merely one well placed opportunity away from obtaining thier own national success.

A catchy, diverse, and powerful sound combined with a strong work ethic is what Psycle has to offer to their fans as well as industry professionals alike. Psycle are currently signed with Deep South Digital for electronic distribution and are always seeking additional professional interest groups or major label interest. The band has one self titled release available through emusic, itunes or www.cdbaby.com. and a second record "Sins of Angels" has just been released and is under a digital distribution contract with Deep South records.

Psycle's music is featured in two full length independant films. One is Charlotte local film maker Adam Fox's "Circling Serita" (hitting the festival circuit in september) with two song placements and the other is local film group Peoplefoodfilms' "Chickenheart" as the sound of the movie's focal point, a band called Chickenheart. Psycle is also in regular rotation on 106.5's 90 Minutes.
