Bio

Honest, Unapologetic and Living.

That’s how to define the music of Puddin Howell. From the songs he writes, to the CDs in his car, Puddin stays true to good music - real music.

Born the son of a preacher, Garrick “Puddin” Howell holds true to the stereotype. He loves Kentucky Bourbon, good times and listening to the music of the artists that have inspired him the most. Waylon Jennings, Ray Charles, Conway Twitty, Chris Knight Jamey Johnson and Todd Snider top the list of his musical influences. He started playing and writing music when he was in high school, but it wasn’t until college he began truly utilizing his voice and musical ability.

Around the time of graduating from the University of Kentucky (with a B.S. in Agriculture Education) he and five other Lexington musicians co-founded a southern-rock band called Fifth on the Floor (FOTF). In winter 2007, FOTF released an album entitled The Color of Whiskey. Puddin wrote three, and sang lead vocals on six, of the album’s tracks. After a solid and successful two year run with the group, Puddin decided to pursue a career in country and come back to his first musical love.

Puddin found the best players he could to back him up. He took his lineup to Austin City Saloon and won their “not-necessarily-annual” battle of the bands competition. He wanted to make a statement. His statement was heard as clubs all over the area began booking Puddin Howell & Last Call. Since, he has gained standing spots at Austin City Saloon (Lexington, KY), Molton’s Genuine American Honky Tonk (Morehead, KY), R.T.’s Café (Richmond, KY) and obtained the support of Beam Global brands, specifically Knob Creek. He also has close working relationships with several local radio stations, including 92.9 WLXX (The Bear - Lexington, KY), 100.7 WCYO (The Coyote - Cynthiana, KY) and 104.9 WFKY (Froggy - Frankfort, KY).

He has enjoyed opportunities to share the stage with many of the best local and national artists. If you ask him, George Molton and Justin Moore top that list.

Puddin is currently in the studio tracking his first solo album with a projected release of Fall 2010. Bringing back the players from Last Call’s first line-up, Puddin expresses his excitement and apprehension with this album: “I can’t stop working on it. I know this is my ‘forever’ footprint. You get one first album. I can’t wait to hear it finished, but I also want it to be as right as it can be. I want it to be alive.”
