Pufferbilly

Pufferbilly

BandFolkFunk

groovey, hookey, footstomping folk-funk, full of soul. kinda like the the best chili you've ever tasted, with a slight twang.

Biography

From out the head of David Berry, Pufferbilly came to life in 2001. The band quickly gained notoriety on the Reno/Tahoe scene as an all acoustic funk/folk band known for their live performances. In 2004, in the middle of working on their second cd and amid differing ideas on which direction to progress, the line-up changed. Pufferbilly scrapped the 6 recordings they had started, dropped 2 of the original members, found stratocaster slinger Michael, and began a year long stint of live shows honing their new funk-rock-folk feel.
In October of 2005, the boys went into the studio with Reno's own Tom Gordon to work on 15 tracks for the new cd "LAID OUT".
With a sound akin to the likes of Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals, Jack Johnson, and even The Band, Pufferbilly remains as original as a fingerprint from a billy goat hippy who's been fed on Led Zep grain and Dave Mathews grass.
As overheard @ a recent show, "one day Pufferbilly is gonna be playing in front of 100,000 moshing hippies!"
Pufferbilly has brought the house down performing with talents like; San Francisco's own ALO, Sol Jibe, & Bag of Toys among others...

Lyrics

holdin' on

Written By: David Berry

the sun only shines
once in awhile
i'm with her night and day
she's only aroundwhen she smiles
but the smiles don't stay too long
and they're so far in between
she'll walk right by like i'm not here
man i'm stuck inside a bad dream

and there comes a time
when you got to walk away
and there comes a time
when there's nothing left to say
and there comes a day
when it's best to move along
but until that day
i'll be holdin' on

yeah i'll be holdin' on

now, i know i'm not perfect
i just do what i can
and i can't ask perfection
when i'm not a perfect man
but all i need's a couple rays
to lay upon my skin
just enough to keep me warm
'till i feel her sun again

and there comes a time
when you got to walk away
and there comes a time
when there's nothing left say
and there comes a day
when it's best to move along
but until that day
i'll be holdin' on

yeah, i'll be holdin' on

i'll be holdin' on for sure
my grip is tight i won't let go
i'll be holdin' on you see
i won't let go of you and me
i'll be holdin' on
yeah, i'll be holdin' on
i'll keep holdin' on
i'm still holdin' on

laid out

Written By: David Berry

beans in the kitchen
cornbread on the table
i might have to do a man
like cain did abel
caught him 'round back
and now he's all laid out
hands bound up
with a sock in his mouth

tried to tell him y'all

come sniffin 'round
where you don't belong
bet your bottom dollar
that you get done wrong
come sniffin 'round
where you don't belong
bet your bottom dollar
that you get done wrong

he's always coming 'round
trying to break my soul
but this soul in sound
bother me no more
gave the boy a chance
said you got to get gone
now he's 'round back
face down on my lawn

tried to tell him y'all

come sniffin 'round
where you don't belong
bet your bottom dollar
that you get done wrong
come sniffin 'round
where you don't belong
bet your bottom dollar
that you get done wrong
real wrong

beans in the kitchen
cornbread on the table
i went and did the man
like cain did abel
but i'll do the time
for my own sin
'cause if i had it all to do
i'd do it all again

tried to tell him y'all

come sniffin 'round
where you don't belong
bet your bottom dollar
that you get done wrong
come sniffin 'round
where you don't belong
bet your bottom dollar
that you get done wrong
real wrong
