"Rock Obama!"

"Here is a track that was sent to us by Chicago producer Punky Fresh. Not very well known but certainly on the grind... this post is proof that if it isn’t bad we’ll put it out there for the masses."

"Punky Fresh - Sunshine Pill"

“The spring is here everyone! And with a little help from Punky Fresh and their awesome little single, a little awesome feeling might just move into your heart! A remix is demanded!...”

"Punky Fresh - HTHRS RVNG"

“Punky Fresh’s latest track is an addictive and charming banger…”

"Passion Pit "The Reeling" (Punky Fresh Remix)"

“DJ duo Punky Fresh remixed “The Reeling” by indie pop darlings Passion Pit for the Lollapalooza Last Band Standing Remix Contest. If you’re loving their revamp you can vote for it here. Calvin Harris’ remix of the song still is my favorite one but Punk Fresh did a nice job of chopping up the original and putting it back together in fresh new way with a few new bells & whistles.” - Arjan Writes

"People To Watch: Rising Star Holly Long Comes Home to Perform"

“Northbrook group Punky Fresh has advanced to the finals in the Last Band Standing Remix contest. The final competition between will take place at 8 p.m. Aug. 5 at Double Door, 1572 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago. The judges include the Beastie Boys' Mix Master Mike. The grand prize winner will perform at Lollapalooza in August. Visit their site at www.myspace.com/punkyfreshsounds.” - Pioneer Local (Sun-Times)

"Mix Master Mike Performs Despite Beastie Boys Cancelation"

“The crowd was packed into the venue to vote on their favorite DJ. The winner would be granted to opportunity to take the Parry Farrell stage during the course of the three day party. Chicago local, Punky Fresh was awarded the spoils. It wasn’t until after the competition was over, and DJ Titsworth wrapped up his jams, that Mix Master Mike took the stage.”

"Back at Home"

Oh I’m so proud! Punky Fresh is made up of two guys, one of which is Pete Cho, my label’s old intern! These guys are extremely talented and actually won a Dell-sponsored contest earlier this year, garnering them a spot at this year’s Lollapalooza festival. Their remix of Passion Pit, which helped them on the road there, is featured below along with “Wild Leek,” one of their new originals. Their tracks are full, crunchy and loud – they remind me of artists like ULTRNX. “Wild Leek” is especially nice, with slight retro-ness both in production style and chosen sounds that works to the track’s advantage.

"Punky Fresh at Beta"

It's not just a brand-new year, but a whole new decade, so why not kick it off with something fresh? Chicago's Punky Fresh is so recently arrived on the scene that not only doesn't the act have an album out yet, but it still has that new-producer smell. The two members claim to be brothers and go by the names =p! (pronounced like the letter "p") and d, and first made a splash with a remix of Passion Pit's "The Reeling" that landed them a spot at Lollapalooza 2009. They trade in genre-busting, expectation-defying juxtapositions of sound and style that fit the name Punky Fresh. On a track like "Wild Leek," they can proffer the kind of old-school trance that used to be the mainstay of the Superstition label, garnished with a twist of today's electro house. Then, on a track like "HTHRS RVNG," they'll go and remind you of the weird cut-and-pasted-samples and day-glo synth aesthetic of the proto-rave scene. And just when you think you've got them pegged as retro-revivalists, they turn around and mash up Far with M.I.A. in a completely of-the-moment-sounding mix. So forget the categories and go hear them with open ears on Friday, January 8, at Beta.

Punky Fresh are electronic music producers, DJ’s, and live performers from the house capital of the world, Chicago, IL. They are made of two brothers, Tiger Jr and Barry Lird. The two started off experimenting with various sounds after attending Perry's Stage at Lollapalooza 2008. In nearly six months, Punky Fresh went from playing underground parties to playing with worldwide established artists and DJ's such as Mix Master Mike (Beastie Boys), MSTRKRFT, Tittsworth, and DJ Mel.

Tiger Jr started throwing monthly loft parties in 2009 at what was known as the infamous 3FLR parties above Tonic Room in Lincoln Park. Punky Fresh introduced Krewella, Universe, Ocean Orbit, and many local artists their first gigs. Tonic Room below took notice, booked Punky Fresh and gave them a weekly Tuesday night where they would bring in local favorites: Midnight Conspiracy, Dani Deahl, Willy Joy, Krewella, and Skyler.

The duo remixed Passion Pit's "The Reeling" which won the 2009 Dell Lounge: LBS Remix competition. Punky Fresh ultimately landed a coveted spot at Lollapalooza that summer, sharing the stage with Bassnectar, Diplo, Kaskade, Perry Farrell, Moneypenny, and more.

Kicking off 2010, Punky Fresh headlined the first weekend of the new year at the world famous Beta Nightclub in Denver, CO. The duo were selected by Global Inheritance to play the Sweatshop Mixer at Coachella 2010. Later that summer, Punky Fresh went on their first tour that stretched out from Colorado to Pennsylvania, opening up for acts such as Designer Drugs, Le Castle Vania, LA Riots, One Man Party (Soulwax), D.I.M., DJ White Shadow (Lady Gaga), Hey Champ, Lucky Date, Hot Pink Delorean, Midnight Conspiracy, and many more.

In June 2011, after having taken nearly 7 months off from DJing and making live appearances, Punky Fresh threw their first big event of 2011 with Effort Chicago titled "Crazy Ass Dance Party" bringing in Le Castle Vania and Kids At The Bar to co-headline. TheUntz.com hailed the party a success stating that, "The event lived up to its bold promise and then some..." Punky Fresh was later added to Hard Summer Tour with Digitalism, Caspa, & Jack Beats at the Chicago stop of the tour.

Punky Fresh kicked off 2012 with a bang, playing Stellar Spark's sold out New Years Eve show which was headlined by Skrillex, Alvin Risk, Dillon Francis, and Donald Glaude at The Rave in Milwaukee, WI. Punky Fresh teamed up with Effort Chicago once again to throw Chicago's only weekly 18+ dance party in the heart of Wicker Park on Sunday nights at Debonair Social Club called #CHURCH. The parties success led to Punky Fresh being booked for North Coast Music Festival in 2012 and Deranged Music Festival 2012 in the fall.
