Energetic, danceable rock with a slightly jammy side.

After a fruitless conversation about band names, over Heinekens and hamburgers, a band friend described a dream of a man chasing him to his terror the night before. This man's name was Arouk Punsapaya..
A year and a half later, the band that formed on the premise of a ridiculous name haunting a friend has led the drive into the New Chicago Scene with a return to the vintage. Those dissatisfied with the sterile pop assembly line follow the honesty and energy of Punsapaya.
In 2000, Punsapaya joined the class of celebrated local acts to emerge from Chicago when they released their first self-titled EP, produced by the renowned Doug McBride (Cupcakes, Verbow, Dovetail Joint). Since then, Punsapaya has generated interest from many industry professionals.
Punsapaya continues to mesmerize audiences in Chicago, where they call venerated clubs like Elbo Room, Subterranean, and The Note home. They have been recently featured on WXRT's Local Anesthetic "Capsule" where their songwriting skills have been commended by host Richard Milne.
Moving outward, they have quickly become favorites of colleges and festivals across the Midwest. Indeed, their performances have been described with words and phrases such as, "...truly amazing..." (Jill Blacketer, Chicago Magazine) and, "...incredible..." (Lou Carlozo, Chicago Tribune).
Punsapaya is a show that is not to be missed. Those who discover their music become privy to one of Chicago's best-kept secrets...
