Purrington

BandChristianAlternative

Worship-driven lyrics with genuine attention to the music. Intentionally a four-piece to maintain creative balance and integrity. In the same alt/pop/rock neighborhood as Jimmy Eat World and Death Cab for Cutie, Purrington strives to create songs that are memorable musically as well as lyrically.

Biography

Purrington is the band that didn't mean to be.

Their vocalist and primary songwriter dropped out of music ventures five years ago to go into full time youth ministry, their keyboard player can't actually drive yet, and they have got to have one of the only drummers that is contractually obligated to use Titleist golf clubs.

Kevin began writing songs to use in youth worship settings. He met Richard after a ministry move to the Chattanooga area. With golf and music in common, they immediately hit it off and began practicing in Richard's basement. Brandon was playing in the youth band and quickly proved himself a musical asset. Brandon's brother Tyler was caught standing too close to the vortex and got sucked in on bass.

Following a 5 weekend series of "unofficial" appearances at a North GA youth retreat, Purrington decided to take itself more seriously. They have quickly built nearly an hour of original material and are in negotiations to enter the studio. In their debut this fall leading worship at a See You at the Pole rally, Purrington put the lights out in front of 850 excited attendees.

Lyrics

Come to Thee

Written By: Kevin Alton

I am alone and today I am feeling tired
I've been relying on me
I come again to the love you have inspired
Lord, I come to thee

When life's worrisome days try to knock me out
Where I once turned to flee
I find joy where I once cried my troubles out
Lord, I come to thee

Come to thee
Come to thee
In my sorrow, peace I borrow
Lord, I come to thee

Where my steps have failed you they have let my brother down
Far too often it seems
On my feet, I now turn to lift him from the ground
Lord, we come to thee

Come to thee
Come to thee
In our sorrow, peace we borrow
Lord, we come to thee

Now together we grow close to the gospel truth
There is no "I" without "we"
As we labor to show ourselves a living proof
Lord, we come to thee

Come to thee, come to thee
Come to thee, come to thee
No more sorrow, peace for tomorrow
When we are one with thee

Lift

Written By: Kevin Alton

LIFT
When I’m alone and my heart grieves
Father of mercy come save me
I’m going down, down, down

Now my strength gives way to doubt
and all my trying has given out
I’m going down, down, down

The past has ways of finding me
and sometimes failure is all I see
It pulls me down, down, down

Then I remember one that’s true,
and all of the love I find in you
when I am down, down, down

You lift me up
When I’m lost and lonely, Lord
You lift me up
‘til I find my strength in you

Though I turn too many times
You chase down this heart of mine
to find me down, down, down

Was I really worth the cost
knowing now that what was lost
has been found, found, found

CHORUS

Now I go searching, now I go seeking one more time
Still you call me to come back to you
Always knowing, always my steps were on your mind
All you want is that I turn to you

CHORUS
CHORUS

Glorious (rough live audio)

Written By: Kevin Alton

You are glorious, glorious
Glorious, you are glorious

In stillness and silence is where I find you
Not in all this violence of sound I wade through
My heart drowns out the sound with its beating
I'll wait for you in our place of meeting

You are glorious, glorious
Glorious, you are glorious

I can't find peace in other voices
Find my own way, make my own choices
Hoping false someday becomes true
I cannot cling to anything but you

You are glorious, glorious
Glorious, you are glorious
You are glorious, glorious
Glorious, you are glorious

Can I run to you now
Am I welcomed home
Is there grace for me now
Tell me I'm not alone

You are glorious, glorious
Glorious, you are glorious
