"The Knitting Factory: Liam Carey's Ace of Spades party celebrates a year of Sunday afternoon Oakland troubadour hoedowns."

"As I tiptoe into Oakland hotspot Mama Buzz on a lazy Sunday afternoon...the performer, Michael Hays (aka Pythias Braswell), is unfazed, elegantly fingerpicking his guitar and inelegantly wailing into the ether: no stage, no microphone.

Look closely, and you realize... as his tempo speeds up, so do the scarf-knitter's stitches. Meanwhile, Liam Carey walks around with a tin of cupcakes, some frosted off-white, some chocolate with off-white lettering. I take an "A," and now they spell "ce of Spades." - East Bay Express - Rob Harvilla

" ... care into every detail. The first time I fired up the 14B was for a mix revision session. The artist, Pythias Braswell, is a wonderful folk singer- songwriter from Hudson, NY. Pythias had minor notes about instrument rides and some edits. After ... " - Tape Op Magazine - Jesse Lauter

Thy Merciful Teeth - LP (Coming Soon)

Hays grew up in Iowa, and was fortunate enough to be surrounded by a tightly woven scene of dedicated songwriters, all engaged in a vast array of experiments with sound. From there he went to Oakland, CA to study film and performance, a move that deeply influenced his belief that songs exist within the larger context of all other arts. He began to pursue songwriting and performing exclusively after relocating to Brooklyn in 2005.

Continuing this trajectory, Hays spent a number of years in Olympia, WA, and completed two EPs in 2012: Invisible Hand, a psychedelic collage of field recordings and song poems, and Dino Jamz!, a combination album and illustrated book, influenced by the keyboards, video games and industrial music of the early 90’s.

Now a resident of Hudson, NY, Hays recently finished his debut full length album, “Thy Merciful Teeth,” which will be released in the Spring of 2016. The core of this LP was recorded live in one day, with drummer Otto Hauser and bassist Terence Murren, at Old Soul Studios in Catskill, NY.

This newly formed trio, united by a common love of earnest writing, improvisation and exploration, now performs regularly throughout the Upstate New York area, and plans to tour extensively throughout the US to support this newest release.
