"Next 2 Blow: Que - Questions No Answers"

When you hail from Queens, NY and you are aspiring to be a great rapper you have to pay homage to the Queens brethren that came before you. Que, an up and coming artist on Attain Records, speaks with Yo! Raps about some of his favorite Hip-Hop legends, what his goals are for his music and more!

Que speaks of everyone from the Roc-A-Fella dynasty to Prince, which shows that he has a very eclectic taste in music. With his new project, Questions No Answers, Que from Queens is set to make his mark on the Hip-Hop world with the hopes of becoming a legendary artist just like the legends that he looks up to from the Q-borough.

What part of Queens did you frequent when you were growing up?

I was born in New York, and my whole family resided in Bayside, Queens. Whenever school went on breaks or came around in Florida, which half the family moved to when I was 11ish, I was in Bayside, Queens or any other part of NYC my people and I could find our way to.

Were you influenced by Queens’ heavyweight artists such as Run DMC, LL Cool J, Nas and A Tribe Called Quest?

Of course I was. I was influenced by all of them. Those are pillar figures, not just in Queens but in Hip-Hop in general… Bonita Apple Bum, I’m Bad, New York State of Mind, just to name a quick few.

When did you realize that you wanted to be a rapper?

About when I was 13. We used to rap in cyphers. Growing up in Queens, the cypher was a way to pass the time among my friends, and I wanted to see how long I could hold a flow but long story short that was around the age I was.

How would you describe your sound and what influences it?

I would describe my sound as more emotional than anything, just the thoughts and opinions I have or what I’m thinking. I just make it into what I call art. My influence for it all is life, what can be more influential than that and music and artists you know

Why did you choose the title Questions No Answer for you release?

Questions No Answers is like raw emotion. There are questions with answers, and there a lot of questions in the world that don’t have an answer. I think people like myself and the art we create are one of them.

When you had to leave school and you had a child on the way did you ever feel like your dream was unattainable and how did you deal with the struggle?

Well, my child wasn't even a twinkle when I was asked to leave school. He didn’t come until a little later, but of course you get a little down but I just kept moving. I was a little to arrogant at that time to realize what was happening, or how it would eventually help and lead me to where I’m at, so I guess it worked out.

Do you have creative control in your current business situation and how important is that too you?

Yes I do. That’s the only way to do it in my eyes and Attain Records was founded on that principle. Creative control means everything to me, this is my art and thoughts, it would be a little difficult for me to create and pull from personal experiences or what I’m feeling at the time if someone is telling me how to do it and what to say you know.

Now I don’t want to speculate on what you did to survive whether it was legal or not but with that being said what’s your take on the constantly growing gun violence in America and do you believe in the right to bear arms?

I think they will find a suitable solution to it but right now I’m more focused on music.

Are there any feature collaborations on you project?

No, there's no collabs on this album. I really wanted the people to get an understanding of me, before all that.

What artists do you want to work with in the future?

Man, there's a laundry list such as Lupe Fiasco, T.I., Jay-Z, Eminem, Mac Miller, Kendrick Lamar and Mystikal, just to name a few.

What is the best and worst thing to you about this industry?

The best thing is that lyricism and creativity is on the rise again and the worst thing is over saturation of what sells.

What do you hope to accomplish with your music?

Honestly just to make good music and do it well!

What’s your most memorable moment in music?

I’m an overall Hip-Hop fan, so the 90’s were very memorable. That was the explosion of Hip-Hop. The rise of Bad Boy, Roc-A-Fella, Cash Money, Dipset, Ruff Ryders, No Limit, and the West Coast rap movement. I see the aspect that made the 90’s great and starting to play out in the industry and it will be interesting10 years from now when people look back and see if we lived up to those days.

What’s your favorite song of all time?

There's way to many to choose one. I’ll give you two that come to mind right now, and that's Prince’s I Would Die For You and Darling Nikki
