"Quake Matthews"

Hi Everyone,

I spent some time with an up and coming Maritime performer today. Quake Matthews has been rapping since he was a teen, and at the age of 23 he’s made quite a name for himself in the hip hop world for his clever lyrics and quick wit in rap battles. There’s so much buzz around the Halifax-native that he’s been asked to showcase at this year’s East Coast Music Week (a prestigious invitation, to say the least).

I met Quake at an ECMA event earlier this month where he took to the stage with his engineer (Corey) and impressed a crowded room of industry folk. That’s also where he told me I had interviewed all of his friends… Classified, Kayo, JRDN, etc. So naturally, I booked him to appear on Section Six! I’m glad I did, because he’s a real talent… not to mention, a tribute to the Maritime urban music scene. I have a feeling the best is yet to come for Quake Matthews.

To learn more about Quake visit his site, or download his latest album “The Book Of Matthew” by clicking here.

Also, if you see him around, make sure to wish him a Happy Birthday on December 27th!

"Lucy - Single"

Halifax-based rap poet Quake Matthews tells the story of a young woman whose avarice costs her her soul on this new single. The 23 year-old hip-hop artist, who takes his name from a love for Adidas Quake shoes, is invading the urban battleground, having already collaborated with acts like SonReal, Freeway and even Royce Da 5'9". 2012's Book of Matthew

received country wide support, particularly for his cutting rhyme flow and beat weddings. This track, from the forthcoming Corrado album, is produced by Chris Noxx (of Piecemakerz-the multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning production team). - New Canadian Music

"Best Local Album"

Fairview-born rapper Quake has been on the rise since his hilarious track “Quake vs. Canada” hit the blogosphere in 2007. At the age of 18, the young MC released the dis track against some of Canada's most famous rappers, not as an insult to some to the greats in the business, but to draw attention to the East Coast rap scene that is generally ignored by the rest of the country.

The plan worked, and after a slew of shows and opening slots for Raekwon at the 2008 Halifax Pop Explosion, Quake released *The Myth* in 2010 to critical and fan acclaim for his brash- sounding hood-rap. With the hard hitting beats of production trio Tone Mason and guests spots featuring Chocolair and Halifax-based rapper Kayo, Quake's The Myth is one of the most dynamic-sounding rap albums the city has ever produced. - The Coast

"Quake Matthews – Lucy"

One of the most aspiring newcomers to the spotlight is rapper Quake Matthews. Based in Canada, he has successfully managed to build up a strong relationship with some great names in hip-hop. Matthews releases a track titled “Lucy” for his debut single, which sees the artist discussing a woman who’s addicted to money and clothing. The Chris Noxx-driven production certainly gives Quake the sufficient amount of fuel to guide him through a consistent first release. You will be able to find the song on his forthcoming album Corrado, featuring the likes of Freeway and Roc Marciano.

The single is available to purchase on iTunes. - OnSmash

"Quake Matthews - Lucy"

Quake Matthews debuts a kaleidoscope of sounds both misty and chopped & screwed on his new single "Lucy". The song is the first single off of the rapper's forthcoming album, Corrado.

On the track Quake evaluates a materialistic female who lives her life addicted to retail. On the Chris Noxx-produced track you can hear that the MC possesses some solid technical rhyme skills, a testament to his upbringing in rap's golden era. He averts sounding like a dated rapper thanks to a modern flow and a good ear for production.

Corrado will feature hazy production and concept songs along with appearances from gruff NY rhyme-slinger Roc Marciano and Philadelphia rap legend Freeway. Check out his latest track after the jump and purchase "Lucy" via iTunes if you dig the tune.

"Lucy - Single"

Not everything that glitters is gold, and not every female rocking a mink coat is a goddess. An underground rhymesayer hailing from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Quake Matthews tells the story of a young woman whose lust for life’s finer things cost her soul on debut single and inaugural Booth feature Lucy. A smoky horn sample from Lamont Dozier’s Trying to Hold on to My Woman (as flipped by beatsmith Chris Noxx) backs the emcee as he recounts said shawty’s fall from grace. Assisting on the guest tip, Geeter contributes some flowed bars to the record’s intro. Lucy is slated for inclusion on Quake’s forthcoming freshman set, Corrado. Fans can keep it locked for all the latest on the project, which as yet lacks a solid drop date. - DJBooth

Bio

Having grown up in the golden age of rap, Quake Matthews and his generation stand at the crossroads of a new era, while paying homage to the greats. His ability to borrow from the past, without sounding dated is a direct result of his upbringing immersed in hip-hop culture. The album went on to receive three nominations from the East Coast Music Association and Music Nova Scotia. On April 4th, Quake Matthews will release his third album Corrado, on Robin Steele Records.
