"QUANTA Making Splash, Gaining Reputation"

The chants of "QUANTA RULES," and "DRUM SOLO!!!" still permeated the crowd long after QUANTA left the stage. Blessid Union of Souls was about to start their show, yet the crowd still wanted more from the trio of John Carroll Seniors.

QUANTA's debut full length album Have Moved You is a culmination of hard work and dedication since the group's start in 1999. Originally named "Up Front," QUANTA is made up of lead vocalist and guitarist Ryan "Rybo" Mekota, drummer Conor "CD" Doyle and bassist and backup vocalist Patrick "Sweddy" McNulty, all seniors at John Carroll. "We all picked our instruments randomly," Doyle recalled, "actually, Rybo was supposed to play drums and I was going to play guitar. Good thing it worked out the way it did!"

Veterans of the local music scene, QUANTA has performed with notable artists such as Pepper, Hot Action Cop, Blessid Union of Souls and Ekoostik Hookah. When asked about the decision to commit to such a large project, Mekota said it was decision time. "Do we let this go when we graduate or do we really try and see where we can take this? So far the response to the album has been encouraging."

The album itself, a 12- track compilation is layered thick with energy and emotion. It's an eclectic, connected mesh of genres, from the electronic-influenced "Dicey Neighborhood" to the delta blues of "Sun Means Rain." QUANTA preserves catchy sing-along choruses set with refreshing maturity. The albums first single, "A Will" features an upbeat melody, impressive percussion play and a gospel influenced hook, "falling down the river/while the water rises," which crowds have fervently sang along to.

"Niche," a favorite of longtime QUANTA fans, features extended guitar solos, showing off Mekota's talent. The title track "Have Moved You" features intoxicating guitar play and changing melodies, and serves as an ideal single, capable of being a hit song.

Showing off true versatility, "Hero" and "Calls Weakening" feature heavy rock guitar riffs that really get a crowd going, while "To Those Who Wrest" and "Through the Night" settle into a ballad, restrained tempo, dripping with emotion.

For a debut album, "Have Moved You" shows surprising musical range and multiple potential singles. It's safe to say that QUANTA is on their way up the musical food-chain, backed by a loyal and growing fan base. "I really like their versatility," said Senior Casey Eskew, "when you look at songs like 'Calls Weakening' and 'When I Look' against each other, they are noticeably different genres, and that takes real talent."

QUANTA has the potential to leave their mark on the music scene and Have Moved You is a must have for any music collection and can be found on amazon.com. "Variety is the Spice of Life"

(4 out of 5 stars)

When it comes down to it, Quanta have put together a solid enough collection of rock with a hint of an electronica influence that is unlikely to leave you disappointed. Unfortunately however it is also one of those frustrating albums where although you find nothing to criticise, there are only a few tracks that really stand out. "Dicey Neighborhood" is one such track, with hints of Depeche Mode or even a more pop oriented New Order. "Niche" also gets your attention with an almost funky beat underneath a rock-hard wall of sound. Ironically though the song that most catches your attention, and arguably the highlight, is "Sun Means Rain" - an unplugged number with a blues beat at its core that can best be summed up as plain and simple music done very well. However, as fine a performance as this is, it just needs a bit extra to make appeal to a wider audience. So, keep up the good work, but if variety is the spice of life then it's time to invest in a bigger spice rack!!

Bio

In the fall of 1999, three childhood friends came together to combine their musical interests into a band named QUANTA. Hailing from Northeast Ohio, CD, Rybo, and Sweddy picked up drumsticks, a guitar, and bass to begin their journey into the musical world. Since their inaugural meetings, QUANTA released 4 demos in their fist years prior to their college graduations.

In the spring of 2006, QUANTA began writing intensively for their debut full-length album. After more than 300 hours in the studio, QUANTA had a compiled a project that was hailed by critics as their best work to date. In January of 2007, the debut album entitled Have Moved You was released. In an effort layered thick with energy and emotion, its eclectic mesh of genres connected on all levels. From the electronic-influenced 'Dicey Neighborhood' to the delta blues influenced 'Sun Means Rain,' QUANTA preserves catchy sing-along choruses set within a refreshing maturity rarely seen these days.

The accessible sound and tight charismatic live performance of QUANTA has propelled them from the local scene to the national stage. Their unique blend of rock with blues, funk, and gospel influences has transformed otherwise commonplace rock music into something truly special. And from this comes the unmistakable QUANTA sound.

QUANTA is currently filling up their late summer/fall schedule now that "The Grotto" has been recorded, mixed, and mastered, so look for constant updates!
