"Meet Queenie Lasoul"

Today we’d like to introduce you to Queenie Lasoul.

Queenie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When I was about 9 years old, my older brother decided to “make me famous” by writing a rap for me. That one rap that he taught me, lead me to begin writing on my own. By the time I was about 12 years old in middle school, I would write verses to cypher during free time in school with my friends.

Those experiences with writing silently bought me closer to my love and fascination with poetry. I was able to tap into any world, character or emotions I wanted to without feeling an ounce of guilt or regret and I loved every bit of it. I took that love and passion for poetry with me to college and began performing at poetry slams and almost every event the University would hold.

Poetry became my 3rd language, so much so that I felt I needed a challenge. I began competing with myself. I wanted to top every single metaphor I’ve ever written, each and every time I decided to write. That competitive spirit pushed me to jump into cyphers with the best male rappers in the University. I began to love rap almost as much as poetry and it became another form of art that stems from Queenie Lasoul the artist.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. I had to endure certain trials in my life. Now that I am in a better place, I’ve realized that everything I’ve been through was so that I can help someone else get through their trial. Before then I didn’t have much of a personal message. Now I do. It fills me with joy to be able to let someone know that they are not alone in their circumstance.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am an artist, lyricist, songwriter and poet. I am mostly known for my lyricism. Being that I am a poet I’m constantly trying to top my last metaphor.

I’m mostly proud of the amount of support I’ve received after releasing my EP “Before the Getaway.” It warms my heart to witness others singing and being able to relate/understand the music. It’s in my top 5 reasons for making and releasing music.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would do absolutely NOTHING differently. Everything that we go through is an experience and or a lesson. How else would we grow?

"Queenie Lasouls Before The Getaway Shines"

It’s easy to forget just how broad the modern soundscape is, and then you take a Sunday stroll through the streaming universe. The diversity of music extends far past an endless sea of artists to a finite point where today’s creators are constantly diverging from their own sounds. The result is blissful indefinability.

Even over the course of a 20-minute EP, the right wide-ranging artist has the opportunity to display an insane spectrum of influence and direction, collecting as a firmly-founded, but seemingly shuffling bunch of sounds and styles. Today, that right artist is Queenie Lasoul. Unsure whether to refer to her as a rapper / lyricist or a singer / songwriter, we’ll just stick with the broad-based artist. Or maybe poet.

And even throughout that broad base – throughout her 7-track project, Before the Getaway– nothing is lost in quality or intrigue. Regardless of stylistic direction, Queenie Lasoul details her artistry with equal gusto. Before the Getaway is a bold exhibition of a modern artist’s ability to create freeform of genre while somehow holding true to an underlying something blended of Brooklyn’s past and Atlanta’s future, tethered by a soulful vocal range and funk-modern driving force.

From bubbly takes like the EP’s opener, Rolled Passed to tracks more fitting of an R&B label like You Don’t Know; From the experimentalism on display in Green Light Go to the grassroots ability to rap highlighting Soul Drop, Queenie Lasoul is, in a word, dynamic.

Her incalculable range aside, Who Got the Vybe steals the show. The unapologetic tribute to New York hip-hop should be considered one of the best since the Golden Age and Gangsta Rap eras passed.

Be on the lookout for more from Queenie Lasoul. Maybe a Getaway is next on the docket. - Rngldr magazine

"QUEENIE LASOUL IS IN HER ELEMENT WHEN “CHILLIN’ IN OUR WAYS”"

Emerging Atlanta based singer/songwriter Queenie Lasoul thrills us with her unique hip-hop infused neo-soul vibes on her new single “Chillin’ In Our Ways.” The track is a 2 part song that sees her displaying both her singing and rapping prowess over smooth atmospheric textures.

The song is a mixed bag of emotions stemming from love and also explores the frailty of how sometimes we humans handle situations regarding the heart. The first part of the song has a downtempo atmospheric vibe that serves as the perfect backdrop for Queenie Lasoul’s honeyed vocals. She puts her emotions on the line to a certain love interest but instead of taking the step forward, she takes her time to ponder on her feelings. The second part of the song has more of a hip-hop bounce layered with sparkling keys and warm basslines. This part, she delivers her lines with a melodic rap flow reminiscent of luminaries like Bahamadia, Queen Latifah amongst others. Both parts are seamlessly weaved into one another and present the listeners a dual view of Queenie Lasoul’s emotions and versatility behind the mic. - TAYO ODUTOLA
