Bio
Quincy Stewart is a long-time musician from Pontiac, Michigan, 30 miles north of Detroit. Much smaller than Detroit, Pontiac has produced BIG talent such as internationally known jazz greats Elvin, Thad and Hank Jones, pianist Bubby Hatchet, sax-man Dan Turner who toured with Ray Charles for many years and Ronnie McNear who is currently with the Four Tops.
In that same tradition comes Quincy Stewart, with a unique sounding trumpet style along with his compositions. Quincy has opened for Donald Byrd, Stanly Clarke, Issac Hayes, Thad Jones, Hank Jones, J.C. Heard, Najee, Wayman Tisdale, The Isley Brothers, Stanley Jordan, Donald Harrison and Billy Cobham.
"I don't have the awesome pyrotechnics of a Sean Jones or the flawless technical gymnastics of Wynton or Nichols Payton, at least not yet. What I do have is a personal sound, lots of heart and an openness to grow," said Stewart. "Even though I'm nowhere near old enough to have been there, I gravitate to a time; that 1950's Blue Note sound where Lee, Horace, Blue Mitchell, Dexter and the rest played with such natural heart. They all had some "dirt" on em and weren't as "clean" as today's players from schools and conservatories."
