Bio

Ah, the Mighty Quinn!

Picture a young Black child in the Deep South, writing poetry so eloquent his biggest fans are his school teachers. They encourage him, and at the same time that they are so enthralled by his amazing talent, they enter him into contests. And he wins. Again. And again. And again.
Ironically, or perhaps it’s fate, that one of his heroes is the late great Tupac Shakur, who also was a poet, both as a child and as an adult. It’s only poetic justice then, that like Tupac, this prodigy of prose would come into his own as a teenager. Dubbed “The Golden Child,” Quinn began turning his rhyming into rap when he was 12. It was an emotionally charged event that actually inspired his creative foray into hip-hop. “My uncle died of lung cancer,” explains the soft-spoken teen. “When he died, I wanted to express my feelings, so I sat down and wrote my first rhyme – ‘Missing You’.”
Quinn only shared the heartfelt piece with friends, but it got into the hands of Souf Star Entertainment President Corey “Chill” Hill. “Missing You” made it into the recording studio nearly three years after its conception, but its emotional impact was as strong as the day the young rhymester had painstakingly penned it. “My family cried when they heard it,” Quinn recalls.
Out of pure pain, out of heartfelt expression came the touching and prolific beginnings of Quinn as a rap artist. Although he is young in years, he possesses a mature intellect and a passion for poetry that is unbridled in its “rap-ture.” He is street-wise and savvy, yet he is passionate and innocent.
Currently 16 years in age, much of Quinn’s lyrical content is aimed at the young ladies, but he is not afraid to touch on social issues, what he calls “real-life stuff,” such as the way the world is today. His presentation is from a teenager’s point of view. He wants people, in fact, to realize they should “never underestimate the young mind.”
The tracks on Quinn’s soon-to-be-released debut album are thought-provoking and creative, while reflecting the young man’s ability to capture an urban flavor that is both catchy and contemporary. “Give ‘em What They Want,” is a track that bounces with a seductive rhythm alongside captivating lyrical prose. “I just want to give my fans exactly what they want… each and every one of my fans,” he explains as the catalyst of this song.
Another clever track entitled “Thatz Right!,” carries the listener through a cascade of call-and-response chant and lyrically-deadly punch-lines. Any then there is “Need in My Life,” which showcases his softer side and seductively smooth delivery. “I had to explain my emotional needs as a young man, aside from the materialistic concerns of the world today,” is how he puts it.
Quinn has already accumulated numerous first-place awards in various showcases throughout the region, pitting him not only against other genres of music, but also much older and experienced competition. It doesn’t take long for the crowd to become captivated by his charming personality, yet enthused by the energy of his live-performance and spectacular lyrical talent.
Talented, gifted, humble yet confident, he is an artist that is more substance than hype. It is time.
