QUISOL: ARTIST + ORGANIZER

Quisol is a Bay Area-based artist and organizer from Charlotte with roots in the Philippines and Puerto Rico. Since 2012, frontperson Joseph Quisol has been creating music and playing shows in Charlotte and around the South, originally with Jameilyara Moore, Daniel Quisol, Walker Smith, Sam Luther Allison, and Evan Zemaitis in the band YARA. After going separate ways for college, the friends stayed in touch and kept creating, and in June 2016 Joseph returned to Charlotte to form a new group to perform songs his self-released project An Aural Autobiography. Collaborating with long-time friends Nik Maldonado (percussion) and Kevin Washburn (saxophone), Randall Davis (bass) and Michael Gonzalez (congas) were added to the mix and the group co-founded Queen's Collective to host pop-up shows across the Queen City.

This success in the underground DIY scene caused waves and soon the band was asked to play at events and venues across Charlotte. Throughout 2017, the band recorded The World Keeps Turning EP with Rahsaan Lacey and Dan Wallace from the electronic music group RUMUR. QUISOL independently released the project in February 2018 while Joseph was completing his Ed.M. at Harvard University in Art in Education where he studied under Vijay Iyer and Esperanza Spalding

Spalding is now mentoring Quisol as part of the LAB Grant he was awarded to fund his debut album, set to be released March 22, 2019. QUISOL's music is rooted in revolutionary love and decolonial praxis.
