Bio

Independence of the hunger is what it's all about. The latest tune 'Independence' from the band 'quixand' sheds light on their constant quest to create energetic music that combines 'old school' sounds and a passion to explore new realms of Rock.

The band started in late 2003, when guitarist/songwriter Michael Alon met bassist/songwriter Amit Shtriker, years after they had played together in a youth band.
The click between the two was instantaneous, and soon after their musician friends heard the material they were eager to form a band together. "At first I was a bit skeptic", says lead vocalist Tom Cherkasky, "But after I heard the sketches, I was blown away. The melodies had a powerful touch, that could really bring out the qualities of a lead singer."

The songs combine a rich harmonic content with a strong emphasis on dynamics and emotional lyrics with a hint of social agenda. Drummer Tamir Barzilay, whose style was inspired by the 90's Grunge bands, merged perfectly with the other band members. His virtuosity and energetic vibe gave the songs exactly the right 'feel'.
"We didn't just come up with the name 'Highly Flammable' for our debut EP. The band's sound was literally based on that concept", says Michael A. "As we listened to our first rehearsals, we felt as if the music was setting us on fire!"

After a year of creative sessions together, the band started performing in local clubs as well as national festivals. They were flattered that the crowd and critics liked the concept of their live performance. "As soon as the first note was heard, it was obvious that 'quixand' knew what they were doing... An energetic performance that wouldn’t have shamed any major artist of it's kind." comments Yaniv Shem-Tov, reviewer, The Musical Act magazine (Israel).

'Quixand' believes that their music can touch Rock'n'Roll fans worldwide, and are currently planning to tour outside their home land to share their music and energetic vibes. Their debut EP 'Highly Flammable' is now available online and includes four of their intense, powerful songs.

"As a band, we feel that not only has our experience together opened our musical horizons, but most of all, has created a unique synergy that brings out the most from each of us." Tom C. concludes. "It's a constant burning, we can't fight it…"
