Bio

Right now as you read this, just know that this moment almost didn’t happen. Almost didn’t happen because of a mistake made in the heat of the moment. Shots were fired at a police officer, and the officer fired back. Call it fate, call it being blessed, or just plain luck, but both parties missed each other in the exchange. This moment almost didn’t happen because of loyalty and pride. Already a felon from the shooting incident, Raaqim went back to prison because he was thought to have withheld information critical to a police investigation. Right now as you read this, just know that this moment almost didn’t happen. In 2008, while on tour, the same disease that complicated the lives of four of his family members and took the lives of two, his father and grandmother, almost took Raaqim’s life as well. Because of his struggle with diabetes, Raaqim now has a strict diet and scheduled medicine that has to be injected into his veins with a needle.

This story isn’t about mistakes but instead the ability to learn from the hardships and overcome the adversity given with the cards that were dealt. In fact if you ask him, Raaqim will tell you he chooses not to focus on the negative or glamorize the mistakes. Instead he would rather talk about the good things. Like how blessed he is to be alive and how even in prison he honed his skills as a lyricist and pursued his dream to one day reach millions with his music. That which did not kill him, made him stronger and even in a game built on the glamorization of senseless violence, Raaqim would rather not talk about it to lead others in a more positive direction.

“Born in the ghetto, bread amongst the worst, but never let that be an excuse for my worth”- Raaqim

Although still a new artist to most, Raaqim has been a staple in the Kentucky Underground for a number of years. Among his accomplishments include Rap Is Crack Volumes 1 and 2 which distributed more than 1000 copies in 2007 and 2008, and his first original release titled “This is My Life" which distributed more than 3000 copies in 2009. Raaqim has toured the country with national recording artist Kasper From The K, and shared the stage with such industry staples as Twista, Scarface, Slick Rick, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Trina, Young Dro, Yo Gotti, Tity Boi AKA 2 Chainz, Plies, and many more. Raaqim also has the respect of some of the biggest names in Kentucky Hip Hop and has worked with the likes of Nappy Roots, Rob Jackson, and Black Coffey. With his latest release, Raaqim gives his fans “The Layover”, a mixtape hosted by Beatz By The Blizz of Basshead Ent. The release of “The Layover” acquired what some would say is instant success by reaching nearly 2000 downloads in the first week. With a tight mix of songs from club bangers like “Game Time”, motivational music with “You Will Know” and holding his own on “No Time” with KY veterans Rob Jackson and Mino Slick, “The Layover “ is satisfaction guaranteed. This only solidifies what Raaqim has known to be true all along. Raaqim believes in music that can motivate and still have a message, all the while proving that lyrics do matter, and the MC is still relevant.
