Bio

Music became an outlet for me to express things I had a hard time articulating. As I live day by day and try to push forward into a better way of life, one I believe is difficult but possible, I create music. I sing what I'm feeling, and what I wish others were feeling, and what I wish I wasn't feeling. I sing about how things could be, and about how things are. Then, getting the opportunity to invite others into that process as you perform? Beautiful.

Music connects people and brings out a humanity that is often closed off to the world. I believe music has the power to break down barriers. If people of every ethnic group, age, and income bracket can come together and experience life through music, that's something I want to be a part of.

If I could pick my top five influences, in no particular order, they would be as follows. John Mayer; I think he's brilliant. Mumford and Sons; I know I know, everyone likes Mumford and Sons. But in all seriousness, they're poetic and full of soul. Brooke Fraser; she's a solo artist from New Zealand, and probably one of my biggest influences. Sometimes her songs are so exposed and raw and heartfelt, then at times her songs are silly and fun and playful; this is an important balance that should never be undervalued, and she hits the mark beautifully. Claude Debussy; one of my favourite composers. The beautiful relationship of alluding and ambiguity is so intriguing and unique. My favourite piece by him is called "Le Faune". It's wonderfully creepy. Lastly, Mother Mother. They're from my home city of Vancouver, which makes me partial. Still, they're silly and fun and so unexpected and unique it's remarkable.
