"Jump shines and pulls together an eclectic show"

...Jump was the last of four bands on Friday night, and all had very different styles.

Rachel Solomon, a chanteuse from Boston, started off the evening with her band and a solid set of jazz-inspired
ballads. Playing the piano and singing, Solomon’s classical training makes her a pleasure to listen to. Although
her voice is more akin to Diana Krall’s than to Billie Holiday’s, Solomon has a classic jazz sound that
immediately lends itself to passionate love songs.
...Her range and
talent alone are enough to warrant a second viewing, and as a regular at many Boston haunts, everyone should
be sure to catch her live.

"Solomon Sings Cabaret For Metal Fans"

"Female Billy Joel" -
The diminutive young lady sitting behind the piano [at the Encore Lounge] is Rachel Solomon, an aspiring singer-songwriter whose infectious giggle and high-pitched voice belie the sounds you'll hear once the clasically-trained pianist starts making music. The young Texan, whose teachers have called her a female Billy Joel, plans producing her first solo recording sometime next year.
In the meantime, she continues to play whatever you put in front of her. Gershwin, Bon Jovi, the Supremes, it doesn't matter, she'll give it a shot. Watching her enthusiasm as she tackles songs that were standards long before she was born is part of the fun.

Bio

When Rachel Solomon started writing songs, it was about as hard to put her music into one genre as it is when you ask her now what state she's from - because she's lived everywhere, and has been influenced by everything. As her craft began to develop through the years, the influences from having been born a northerner, raised a southwesterner, reared an Austinite, and schooled a Bostonian came together in song as piano-based Pop and Rock Singer/Songwriter music that's as deep and detailed as it is accessible and mainstream. And to top things off, she doesn't live in any of those places anymore - she has relocated to Nashville, TN.

As most pianists do, Rachel began with classical piano training and after learning jazz saxophone began to incorporate the jazz language into the piano as well. In her teens she was most drawn to singer/songwriters of the personal type like Fiona Apple and Duncan Sheik, but felt a strong connection to melodic rock writers such as Freddie Mercury of Queen and Billy Joel. When it came to singing, she was more often influenced by male voices than female voices.

Though a somewhat quieter personality, on stage Rachel Solomon becomes a different person. The piano becomes an extension of her being, and her voice an extension of her thoughts. Audiences in Boston, New York, Austin, and Providence have already been exposed to Rachel's music. In March of 2004, Rachel was named Fostex.com's Artist of the Month. On Garageband.com, her song "Drive" placed #179th on the charts out of over 1000 Pop/Rock songs.

More recently, the song "Off You Go" was a Runner Up in Round I of the 2006 Singer/Songwriter Awards contest. Rachel's Dido-like "Burgundy St." was considered Honourable Mention in Round II. "Rain On Me" was a Runner-Up in the 2008 Singer/Songwriter Awards!

Discover her yourself, and enjoy.
