"Artist of the Week on CRUMBS.net"

11/01/07 When we talk about the Albany scene we don’t often mention bands that make it out of the area. We just may have the next big artist. This week on CRUMBS Café we are featuring an artist who is just a couple of mere steps away from making it big. We first met up with Rachel Vogt at the Dreamspun conference back in the spring when she was just laying down her tracks. Since then she has been working vigorously on her new venture with one of the area’s best producers, Don Ferro. Both Don and Jim Holshue form Dreamspun Recording Group are lining her up for national success and a chance to have a future with a national record company. This up coming weekend she is starting her promotional campaign by headlining at the new GE Theatre at Proctors.

This is a rare opportunity for this young artist and one that we all should support her on. The reason why I say this is because I believe that the local artists in the area need all the help they can get to become successful. And if someone does make it to the national level then others will have a path to follow. Remember all of the support we gave to Sirsy when they were competing for the Lollapalooza seat? They made it all the way to Chicago with our support and are still playing gigs out there. My point is that bands and artists in this area cannot make it on their own; they need a shove for all of us. Alright, I’ll get off my soap box. Check out Rachel Vogt on this episode of CRUMBS Café and support the local music scene.

"Albany Times Union thoughts on Rachel"

Rachel Vogt's new debut CD is appropriately titled "On My Way." With veteran producer Don Ferro at the helm, 20-year-old Vogt impresses with a solid, versatile voice as she tackles 10 tunes that stretch from big adult-pop ballads ("Guilty as Charged") to hip-shakin' dance-floor R&B ("Everything Is Changing"). The phrase "On My Way" also applies to the DreamSpun Recording Group, the new Schenectady-based label that's releasing Vogt's CD. Vogt celebrates her debut with a party and concert at the GE Theatre at Proctors at 7 p.m. Sunday. - Greg Haymes, The Times Union

"Rachel Vogt Live"

Rachel Vogt is on her way to stardom by way of hard work and loads of talent. She’s not selling herself through “American Idol” claptrap; she’s doing it with blood, sweat and tears and the help of a hand-picked back-up band that includes inspired R&B/jazz saxophonist George Kurtz, guitarist Mike Tremante, drummer Mark Hollis, bassist Carl West and super pianist Azzaam Hameed (better known regionally as Saratoga jazz singer Judy Wyle’s steady musical partner).
In addition, Vogt’s gorgeous voice – which falls somewhere between the pop stylings of Mariah Carey and the blues-soul power of Joan Osborne – is nestled between two superlative back up singers Tomika McDougald and Danielle Vitullo.
Vogt’s live repertoire is drawn from a wide range of classic nuggets that go back to the 1930’s with Fats Waller’s “I’m Gonna Sit Down Right Down and Write Myself a Letter,” through the 1970’s with Tavares’ “Heaven Must be Missing An Angel,” and into today with her own originals that have a timeless quality.
Her debut album, “On My Way” on DreamSpun Recordings, is a fine introduction of what she is capable of as a songwriter, but seeing her perform in front of an audience is the real proof of her talent. Last Saturday at the Van Dyck in front of a sold-out house, Rachel Vogt delivered the goods with a powerful vocal delivery on ballads, jazzy tunes, rocking numbers and funky R&B.
