Discography

A series of three self-released CD-singles, a self-released debut album entitled Asleep In the Forest, and we're currently in the (home) studio recording a concept album about ghosts trapped in haunted trees, mining towns swept away by floods, and magicians walking on roads filled with blood.

Bio

Rad Unicorn is a strange wooden creature gnawing its way through the luminous secret despair of modern life.

Rad Unicorn is two people singing on a stage: it is communion and the angel of woe and a mushroom cloud and a frozen forest.

Suzanne and Ero began playing music together in 1994, as part of the noisy San Diego art-pop band the Nylon Coated Cats. They fell in love while singing a duet about depression, and soon things began to fall into place.

Rad Unicorn was formed in the process of moving to New York, and the first songs reflected the loneliness of living in a new town. The first recorded song was intended for use in a hospice; it was literally a song for the dying. Later songwriting tended to follow in this general vein.

Rad Unicorn is an antidote to irony and false optimism. Songs draw upon the great musicians of the minimal and the soulful: Leonard Cohen, Young Marble Giants, Flying Saucer Attack, Johnny Cash and Son House.

The duo, who are now happily married, bring a special intimacy to the stage. They perform without posturing and aren’t afraid to interrupt their songs of woe with enthusiastic covers ranging from metal to honky tonk to 80s pop.

In addition to the Nylon-Coated Cats, both members have performed in other musical capacities: Ero spent several years as a recording engineer and commercial composer, and has played with and recorded Asthmatic Kitty artist The Castanets, and has an alter ego as producer for the quirky experimental hip-hop project Future Rapper. Suzanne contributed bass parts to the Future Rapper project, and spent a year performing with the hard-rock band John Carpenter & the Pines.

Rad Unicorn performs regularly in the New York City area and is looking for label support.
