Biography

The singer songwriter Rafael Pondé is an outstanding example for the rich music scene of Brazil today. Born and raised in Bahia, Rafael Pondé who combines soul with a rock attitude and incisive lyrics with Reggae and Brazilian styles, stands for the diversity of Brazilian music today.

His first successful appearance on the Brazilian music scene was with the Reggae band “Diamba”. He toured several years and had the opportunity to gain experience on major stages while he played as the opening act for “The Wailers”, “Andrew Tosh” and “Steel Pulse” in Brazil.

His debut in 2003 as a solo artist brought him highly acclaimed critics for his album “Atómos, Palavras e cancoes” in Brazil. The growing popularity of Rafael Pondé drew the attention of famous Brazilian producer Kezo Nogueira. So Rafael was invited to produce his 2nd album with him. The result is a mature album of an artist who's native city became too narrow for his ambitions. So he moved to Sao Paulo and produced an unexpected fully acoustic album called “Eu e meu Violão” (me and my Guitar). His song “Sorriso de Flor” gained cult status and entered the dance floors as a remix by DJ Roots. Unavoidably it crossed the ocean to be played in the epicentre of dance music: London's Club scene.

Followed by the success of “Sorriso de Flor” in Europe, Rafael picked up his guitar for a trip to Portugal and Spain. This is when Peppermint Park became aware of this extraordinary talent and invited him to a recording session at the Peppermint Park Studios in Hannover to work with some of the best musicians around.
