Biography

Think Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt & Janis Joplin all rolled into one with the falsetto of Joni Mitchell. Raina is a Toronto born and raised, singer-songwriter, who "can go toe to toe with any one of them."(Cyrus Rhodes, The Muse's Muse Songwriting Website.)  She is a self-taught musician with a fresh folk-rock vibe that plays out her signature sound on her adult folk/rock debut CD, Raina Krangle-Solstice. Growing up in a musical family where her mom occasionally sang with Bob Ezrin at a Yorkville venue, her dad played guitar, grandfather played piano and sister sang, it's a wonder a family band was never formed!  Raina began writing her first songs (like "Always") on a piano until she got a guitar and harmonica at 15 years and began hitting the open mics like Free Times Cafe and the El Mocambo in Toronto.

Since then, she has performed at venues all over Toronto such as The Dakota’s Tavern, The Hard Rock Cafe, TorontoThe Central, The Reverb, The Amsterdam Bicycle Club, and several other venues across the GTA as well as Mike's Place in Israel and Jack’s in Tofino,BC..  A popular festival performer, Raina has appeared at local festivals like Eaglewood Folk Festival  Canada Day at Richmond Green Sports Complex, "Taste of the Hill", a Multicultural Festival, The Markham Street Festival and she was recently selected to showcase her kids music at The Folk Music Ontario Conference in October, 2015.

Her song, "Needle in the Hay" was nominated for the Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award by Folk Music Ontario and the Ontario Arts Council and was entered in CBC Searchlight as well as her song, "Passing Me By". "Sunset" & "Needle in the Hay" have been in the Top 10 Indie Countdown on Women of Substance Radio out of California and on York Region's Music Lynk Radio.

Her newly released CD, Raina Krangle- Solstice, is a compilation of early beginnings and new originals. Raina has emerged as a poignant songwriter who writes heartfelt lyrics with catchy melodies you will remember and truly connects with her audience.  She has a soulful voice that will soothe your ears and a style uniquely her own, that will make you want to keep listening. Her sound continues to evolve along with her songwriting and recording of her second CD is in the works and one not to be missed!

Lyrics

Needle in the Hay

Written By: Raina Krangle

Look at the world, look at the sun,
Look at all the battles, you think you've won,
Up at the sky, down at the ground,
Look at all the happiness, you think you've found.

But I want to know, how you really feel oh ya
I want to know, if what you are is real,
I want to know, how you feeling today?
'Cause I want to know, what it's like to be, like to be, like to be...a needle in the hay.

Think about your old man,
Thinking about your mom,
Thinking about a couple of things, they might have done wrong,
Thinking about your life now, thinking about it then,
How about all the letters, you should have sent.
(repeat Chorus)

Seeing that old guitar, seeing that old friend,
Finding that old pair of jeans, you tried to mend.
Seeing that old picture, of an ex-lover,
Sleeping on your favourite old, pillow cover.

(repeat chorus)

Nuclear Tattoos

Written By: Raina Krangle

When will we care, what is out there,
Beyond our own profit,
What can we do, it's all up to you,
To stand up, don't buy it.

Chorus: Together we're one,
Fukushima can't be undone,
Can we look at those little eyes,
And say, "We did our best"?

'Cause we can't ignore,
What's happened to the shores,
Of all our coastlines,
We've polluted the chain,
We're on the same train,
And there's no more gravy.

(repeat chorus)

So how can we get through,
To the corporations who,
Put us in the quicksand,
No more fossil fuels, no nuclear tattoos,
We can't rely on "ob la de la da"

(repeat chorus)

Passing Me By

Written By: Raina Krangle

Passing Me By
Music & Lyrics by Raina Krangle
©1990

I wish we could have met at another time, another place,
But soon you’ll be just another face, passing me by (X2)
I could have loved you, ooh so good I wish I could,
But why doesn’t anybody stay in one place anymore? (X1)

Chorus:

Baby I wish that you could be mine,
‘Cause you’re so right, oh you’re so fine,
And I wish that we could hold on,
‘Cause you’re so right, but the timings all wrong.
(repeat chorus)

Is it up to fate or is it destiny that you and me can’t be together now?
I’m sure gonna miss you when you’re gone,
‘Cause you’re so right, but the timings’ all wrong.
And soon you’ll be just another face, passing me by (3X)
(repeat chorus)

You’re such a part of me, I’m in complete when you’re not near,
And soon you won’t be here, wont be near, won’t be here,
I need you near,
I feel a stinging pain in my heart, every time you leave,
Oh won’t you please, stay a little longer? (X3)

(repeat chorus)

Holy Land

Written By: Raina Krangle

Disengage from your fear mentality,
It's meant to be an alarm, not a state,
So activate and balance from the top
Let your past make you better, not bitter.

Chorus: (1 & 2)
'Cause you in the Holy Land....now
In the Holy Land,
You're in the Holy Land ...now.
Your temple is there to stand

You can listen to the whispers or shouts,
You can choose to live in fear or doubt,
Or a visionary view outcome,
So much chaos and innovation in one nation.

(repeat first chorus and first verse)

last chorus:
'Cause it's all inside of you,
You ARE the visionary view,
You're in the Holy Land...now,
Your temple is there to stand.
