Rainbow Songs

Rainbow Songs®, purveyors of the popular music programs for children enjoyed by thousands of families across the city of Toronto, has released its first and highly anticipated CD for babies. Dubbed “Oh Baby!”, this recording seamlessly brings together a collection of bluegrass, soul, rock and traditional children's songs to soothe and entertain adults and babies alike.

The record was produced under the watchful eye of Mike Whitla, Rainbow Songs® founder and children's recording artist, whose recordings have won numerous awards including the 2006 Indie award for children's music as well as the NAPPA and Parent's Choice awards. “Oh Baby!”, his latest project released under the Rainbow Songs® moniker, contains a mixture of original and traditional pieces written and arranged by Whitla. Featured on the record are strong vocal performances from Rainbow Songs® veterans Jessica Vigars and Josh Engel, as well as bluegrass heavyweights Ivan Rosenberg on dobro and Chris Coole on banjo. The band also includes a seasoned R & B rhythm section with Kevin Cooke and David Monis on bass and drums.

The Rainbow Songs band "Rock'n'Rainbow" played a sold out show at Lula Lounge in Toronto this summer to launch the cd and will be playing dates starting in April 2010 running through to July 2010 to support the new release. Tour dates to be announced in the new year!!

The music on “Oh Baby!” is delivered with passion and integrity and has a fresh and lively sound. The songs and arrangements demonstrate a dedication to bringing the best to children's music. Says Whitla, “I think children deserve our best efforts as musicians. They don't need to be played down to.” The recording includes original tunes “Hands Together, Hands Apart” and “The Tickle Song” in addition to fresh interpretations of classic favourites like “The Grand Old Duke of York”, “Frere Jacques” and Woody Guthrie's “Cleano”. The CD also champions a set of new children's repertoire including “All the Babies Like Bananas”, “Sittin' in my High Chair” and “Zoom, Zoom, Zoom”.

On Sunday July 19th the Rainbow Songs Band Rock'n'Rainbow performed their only show of the summer at Lula Lounge to celebrate the release of their highly anticipated debut CD, dubbed "Oh Baby!"the album is a collection of the band's best loved songs for babies under one and features all of the programs's favourite instructors. Although the CD is for babies,the concert was for the entire family and was thoroughly enjoyed by the children and adults of all ages in attendance.
