Ralph Buckley 'The Conkling Minstrel'

Feeling a bit camera shy

Ralph Buckley 'poet for peace'
Of all the new and hip music video's and the next hot new sensations on Mtv, I was completely suprised when I finally listened to 'Ralph Buckley's The Conkling Minstrel'. From the opening notes of "Fountain Song" I found myself mesmerized by the spell I was under. These songs went far beyond anything I've heard on the market in recent years.
The songs cover quite an array of different musical styles, from acoustic ballads to hard driving, lead guitar power blues, the variety of music is as diverse as the different instruments that Buckley performs with.
Buckley's lead guitar work echo's that of 'Eric Clapton' and ten years after's 'Alvin Lee'. Songs like 'Needles' and 'Cold Christmas' showcases some of the best lead guitar work that has been heard for a very long time.
Some of the slower acoustic ballads reveal surreal, lyrical imagery with songs such as 'Flight of the witch' and 'Fountain Song'. Another gem worth noting is the 'tongue in cheek' protest song 'Where did everybody go'. In the guise of a sing-a-long, bar song, 'Where did everybody go' is a powerful song of protest which poignantly asks 'Uncle Sam' about the absurdities of nuclear war and genecide while at the same time appealing with it's moving melody and rhythem on the surface, a definite piece of skillful songwriting.
This collection of songs is a masterpiece from the 1st track onward, with Buckley's musianship there is no weak songs on the entire cd. This is a cd that I know I'm going to cherish for years to come.
Ralph Buckley's The Conkling Minstrel is a long-awaited addition to anyone's cd collection or musical library.
