"Shaking The Hive: Concert at an Art Gallery"

Singer-songwriter Ralph Torrefranca opened the January 7 show on electric acoustic guitar, accompanied by Michael Escalante standing at a minimal drum set composed of a couple of drums, cymbals, a shaker and tambourine. This folk pop duo delighted audiences with stripped down yet commanding melodies and lyrical richness reminiscent of Death Cab for Cutie, from upbeat songs about finding paradise on 5th and Grand to more melancholic strumming about jumping off bridges in Seattle. The last song, “Devil’s Handshake,” awakened painted red lips to sing and leopard-skin pants to dance around pictures of pagan knights on black horses and women wearing only duct tape. - Shannon Cosgrove - The Examiner

"Meet Downtown Sound’s Top Eight"

“The guitars are fast and furious, calling to mind Fleet Foxes at their most insistent, and the lovelorn lyrics and emphatic deliveries make us think of early Death Cab for Cutie, minus the obnoxious insecurity issues, of course” - Aly Comingore

- The Santa Barbara Independent

Bio

Indie singer-songwriter and So-cal native Ralph Torrefranca has gained some notable attention in the past few months. An opening slot for a sold out show at the historic El Rey Theater and a handful of successful shows in LA, Santa Barbara and The OC.

On top of all of this, Torrefranca released the new EP “Spare Room Sessions” which was produced by Mike Post (She & Him, Robert Schwartzman) and mastered by Mark Chalecki (Local Natives, Black Francis).

With the release of the single “The Devil’s Handshake” along with a well received music video directed by Ron Santarsiero, Ralph is gradually making an imprint in both the LA and Santa Barbara music scenes.

Ralph emanates different elements of folk and indie-pop influences. With some honest lyrics and melodies, his music has been described to be both “eclectic and refreshing” as well as being “Melody driven folk-pop that crosses all genres"'
