I created this blog for different reasons, but one of the most important, was so that I could discover new artists and showcase them in aplace were more people can hear their message.

Emcee's like Ramaj Eroc make my time worth it. Eroc released his 'tape Last Train To Japan a while ago but it did not receive the blog-coverage it deserved so I'm here give it the shine it deserves.

The south-side Chi native, gives all 17 tracks 110% and it shows with every aggressive rhyme he delivers and every word he spits. Joints like Let's March are pouring with emotion and production by the likes of Best Kept Secret, Cardo & Mr. Kooman set-up the mood for this great soundtrack.

If your Ipod is hungry for some quality music, I highly recommend this mixtape and to be on the lookout of more music by Ramaj.

Despite being relatively unknown, Ramaj Eroc has been making a big name for himself the past few months leading up to the release of this project. Titled ‘Last Train To Japan,’ the 16 track mixtape was made as a tribute to the country that was ravished with disaster earlier this year. Despite the fact that the sounds of his music may never reach Japanese soil, the act of dedicating his tape and passion to people of another nation is incredibly thoughtful and unselfish (just listen to track #16)–something I hope does not go unnoticed.

When it comes to the music, you’ll hear why I’ve been praising this artist for so long. Ramaj brings a hiphop-R&B vibe with the prowess to spit emotionally deep lyricism as well as sing catchy hooks to create a musical package with a professional sound. But like most, Ramaj doesn’t do it alone–the Chicago native, current California residing artist collabs with a variety of other rappers and singers throughout the tape, notably Hona Costello, V.O.N., Jack Tradez, Lyrik Luciano, and Seph Lucas; not to mention various producers. The tape maintains a pretty mellow flow, but comes with a lot of beats that will make you bob your head and lyrics that will leave you speechless. First of all …

The damn mixtape has no title! You might think I’m complaining about this but I’m honestly not, I’m just a bit shocked. I actually thought the title was “Untitled” until I looked at the artwork and realized there was no title on it! Then it hit me, “oh shit”, there really is NO title. I wish I had noticed this before I actually listened to the mixtape, but I didn’t. Hell I just noticed this two seconds before I sat down to write this post.

But let’s move on …

I was originally asked to just review the song “Cosby Kids”, but I decided to listen to the whole mixtape and realized that I liked the actual mixtape so much that I figured why not just review the whole thing. The ‘Untitled’ EP starts off with the song “The Door” and ends with “Little Bit” which both happen to be favorites, so I guess you can say this mixtape finishes just as great as it starts. I actually came upon these two songs randomly, since my iPod is always on shuffle. (Yes, the whole mixtape is currently on my iPod and I have no intentions of removing it, it’s that good.) But anyway, I recently updated my iPod a couple of days ago, so I can’t really recognize too many of the new artists by just their voices. I let these songs play out for a while before getting curious enough to look at my iPod to find out who the artist was. Boy was I shocked when I realized it was Ramaj Eroc! I would have never guessed these songs were “just submissions” for my blog from an unsigned artist. Honestly, if I hadn’t looked at my iPod I would have just assumed it was one of the “artists to look out for” for 2014. But even if Ramaj Eroc isn’t one of the artists to watch out for this year according to any of the popular blogs, he’s defintely on my “artists to watch” list.

Ramaj Eroc has another mixtape due for release sometime this Spring, called “The Gift”. (Hey look at that it actually has a title this time. Ha!) He will also be performing at the NXNE Festival in Toronto, Canada in June and will be touring with Hona Costello this Summer! So make sure you’re on the look out for him this summer. - Shaye Wyllie
